This is when you really need Spezza to put up another 30+, Aflie another 30+, Fisher 25+, Foligno 20+, and hopefully our defence can add some goals (Campoli, Kuba, Lee, Picard, Karlsson?).

I don't think we expect Kelly to put up too many goals, nor Neil.

I was afraid it would come to that, we got good goaltending at least and will have great D by the year 2012 when all our prospects are ready.

This team could very well lose 40, 2-1 games this year. There is absolutly no offense in Ottawa.

I don't agree with this. Leclaire is an upgrade in nets, a full year of Clouston, removing a lazy star, all should be good things. Plus if the deal does go through I think the club will be better balanced... I am not convinced this club needs to go for a total rebuild. There are really good peices here.

N4L you are a glass half full dude...

If you're hoping for around 50 goals from Foligno and Fisher, you're in a lot of trouble. A lot.

I have no clue where the goals are going to come from. Spezza had a down year last year with Heatley there the entire season, I dont even know if he can hit 70 points without him... the entire year is basically on Spezza's shoulders. We'll see if he can do it, after all he wasnt even invited to Canada's camp this summer... not a good sign of things to come.

I'm excited for the future in Ottawa, but the present is basically a joke. I feel bad for Alfi after signing that deal because he has to lead a team that has absolutly no shot, at anything.

I said if there's ever a time, then it would be this season.

Leclaire might look very bad this year if we don't have any offence to help him out, and our defence is just as bad.

well that is just the integral person Alfie is, he will never quit on this team no matter what, which is commendable this day and age, you rarely see a player stay with the same team his whole career, Alfie will be one by the time his deal is done, hope he doesn't mind the rough ride that is coming.

Wait, you don't think Heatley will be traded for a decent player(s) before training camp? And if not, you don't think Heatley will still pot 40+ for Ottawa?

I feel awful for Alfi, he deserve's better then what is happening with The Sens right now.

I just hope the Kings get so desperate that they have to deal for Heatley. Maybe then Murray can gets some of value for him... I just cant see this season being anything short of a failure. No shot at the playoffs at this point.

which translates I hope (if this does happen) into another high draft pick in a deep draft for 2010.

If Heatley tears it up in Ottawa there will be suitors for him. A team will deal, but then we lose all those goals from the lineup and is replaced with what? A team dealing for Heatley in season will want to add, not subtract. Picks and prospects which is not going to help The Sens short term.

If he is traded before camp for something decent, there might be a chance for a playoff spot but not if it is just picks and prospects (which I wouldnt mind). At this point with everyone else getting better and The Sens who are basically only going to get worse, how do The Sens really expect to compete with the bubble teams in the conferance, let alone the elite.

Call me crazy, but I dont have much confidence in a Spezza lead team after 2 straight season's of a drop in production. Alfi isnt getting any younger, we still dont have a real threat of a RH shot on the point, and we still have very little jam up front. The only thing that is in good shape in Ottawa is the goaltending.

With no offense The Sens time of possession is going to be minimal and that means that our small defense is going to get run in a big way. This mix of players right now is just awful and the way the team is set up is brutal. This isn't Murray's fault but I dont see how this team is going to compete, wouldnt be surprised if we finished bottom 3 in the league. I know people want to be optimistic, but be realistic at least... right now there is no shot at a playoff spot, none.

N4l, I have got the job for you... that guy who talks people off the edge when they are about to jump.. I am not sure the title but I think you would be great at it! I can just see it..

Jumper: 'I have nothing to live for...'
N4L: 'Well I can't argue with that. Look at you.. your are chubby, obviously live alone with a couple of cats... maybe 10'
Jumper: 'I wanna die'
N4L: 'At this point thatmight be the best solution. From where I sit, things aren't going to get better.'
Jumper: 'Goodbye, cruel world...ahhhh'
N4L: 'Don't hit my car you fat bastard...'

bottom line, Heatley may have cost us the season.  BM was well aware our offense was not up to par and I believe he planned on addressing that through free agency.  Now, we're still in limbo, stuck with a guy that may or may not show up for training camp.  I just hope BM doesn't give in...stay strong...yes, this year is a write off but hey, on a bright note, our prospects are finally gonna get some real minutes.  Time to see what they're made of.
