Because Minnesota, L.A. are still out there in need of players..not sure if either of those are on his radar..

God god I can only ask N4L or one of the others on this board who has contacts to in the Sens, to call them and tell them what a horrible deal it would be for Penner.

Dawg called this morning and we talked and Penner is widely regarded as a cheap mans Heatley..in that he doesn't like to be coached, and isn't willing to put the time in the gym to get in shape..

We may be trading one baby, for another cheaper baby..but at least our baby has to play if he wants to play for the olympics, or to move to a better team.

LA will sign Havlat. Minnesota won't give up Burns.

Penner is 3 years at 4.25M. If he gives us 25 goals playing with Spezza, I will be okay. Lots of players have had statistical blips in their careers during their stay in Edmonton. It must be the city.

Huh?

You're ok with a deal to send the last top forward away for a guy who may (in a good year) score 25 with 2 of the best players in the NHL, and a young kid who is small (um we already have shannon) and a defensive d-man who was average of a -13, and not being in the top pairing either.

Really? That's ok to you...

I'm sitting here shaking my head. After all the rhetoric coming from Ottawa about not accepting anything less than fair market value this is what they take? I would have thought the Pronger deal would have at least started to establish some sort of barometer for "fair market value" but Lupul is twice the player Penner is, and Cogliano is at best a 1st round pick next year...that's at best..

Brutal...this team went from a 1 line team to a 2/3 line team with no secondary scoring and a major problem on their 1st, 2nd or 3rd line (wherever penner plays). You thought heatley didn't have the work ethic...wait for Penner to arrive.

Oh...and Dawg just called to say it looks from where he is that Havlat is going to sign in Minnesota...

I'd be calling LA and asking them if they are sure they don't want in the Heatley deal.

BM panicked and bit to get Neil after he heard the 2.3 million on the table from NYR after the leafs boosted their lineup with mad grit. Glad to c Neil back but he better step it up this season.

So your solution would be to keep him then... Wake up, he is worth Dung because of his character and that 4Million bonus.

It is not that bad...we won't be making a run at the cup next year but we will be a better team than some will predict.

We have a new goalie who has the potential to be awesome, and as Sens fans when was the last time we could say that.

With this trade, we open up cap space. Not sure what will be left after today but it will at least leave us open for a trade later in the year. Another thing Ott fans haven't had the luxury of is available cap space at the deadline.

A change of scenery good be exactly what Penner needs re-start his game, he should be good for 20/30 this year. He is big and if he decides to work hard will be nasty to play against, Battle of Ontario could be back!

Cogliano is small but he too should get 25/30, part of Ott's problem is that all scoring comes from one line.

Who knows maybe we have a decent year and squeeze into eighth.

First it's not a bonus...it's salary.

second...that same character you say he has which makes him Dung...is that same character you're getting in Penner...

Why do you think no one in Edmonton is crying about losing him...they are pissed they are losing Cogliano...not Penner.

The reason is that he's exactly the same as Heatley. He'll whine about not getting top line minutes, but won't work to earn it. He'll show up out of shape, and he'll struggle defensively because he doesn't want, like or feel like he has to.

I'm curious what you see in Penner that makes him such a deal. How much have you watched him? How many people do you know that have scouted him? I can only tell you what Dawg and his peers have agreed on in Chicago, that he's worthless. Edmonton has shopped Penner around the western conf and no one would bite. In fact last offer Dawg heard was Edmonton wanted a 2nd round pick for him.

That's it...enjoy the great return..

Oh and I'm not trying to keep him...I'd prefer to ship him out, but I'm not sending an asset away just because HE wants out. Screw him, if he wants out work your Donkey off and help us to get the best deal for us and we'll ship you out. Other wise don't show up and get suspended, give us the 4 million back and sit at home and enjoy watching the olympics.

I'd rather keep him and make a statement rather than ship him out for crap.

Cogliano's a natural center, and we already have 3 of those that all want to be #1/2. Maybe Cogliano's more open to moving to wing? Did he play on the wing with Gagner?

Penner might just surprise people playing with Spezza and Alfie - who really knows. Sure he's not the most popular guy right now, but change of scenery makes many people better players. If taking Penner is the only way we move Heatley, do you do it?

So much for the Gilbert and 1st rumors though. I'd much rather have Cogliano, Gilbert + 1st and/or prospect, but it's obviously too much.

No - our blue line is over crowded right now, so unless Smith retires, and Lee and Picard play in Bingo all year, then I don't see it. And if we ever plan on giving Karlsson and Cowen a shot, we shouldn't invest anymore into our D.

Phillips, Volchenkov, Smith, Kuba, Campoli, Picard, Lee, Schubert, (Smid), Karlsson, Cowen.

We can't get Diddle all for a guy who thinks he's above the league. How is any GM worth his salt gonna send us a great package for this bum when they don't have to?

Nowhere in that whole 14 lines you wrote it says why didn`t we get a better return...
When exactly did I say I liked Penner? I haven,t expressed any opinion on this matter, I am just analyzing the situation, and it looks I have my feet on Earth more than most people here.
And yes, I`ve watched more than 10 games of PEnner last season.

Well, if they want a 50 goal scoring winger to make their team competitive against the other teams that just got better through free agency, they will. Especially Edmonton who seemingly cannot buy a player (except Khabi). Perhaps Heatley also wanted to see how their goalie situation panned out before making his mind up. Anyways, Dany said he was going to sleep on it" and unless that meant over a nap, then he won't make up his mind until tomorrow. Plus, if he is meeting with the team, likely in Edmonton?, than he'll probably spend some time with them, talking to management, coaching, teammates, etc.

What makes him a deal? $4.25M vs $7.5M to start.

What other deals are on the table? That "deal" with L.A. was a complete farce, if ever Frolov, 5th overall and a prospect were on teh table BM would have jumped on that sh|t!!!

Rangers picked Gaborik over Heatley...he is made of clay.

If there is a better deal out there BM will take it!

Look at the way Heatley is acting, the Oilers are practicly begging Heatley to play for them. The guy is a joke!
