Why do you say that? AA worked pretty hard to accumulate a stocked cupboard of talent, then he did what Ottawa did and traded some of those prospects to acquire major league ready talent.
The trade that brought in Reyes and Buehrle was a trade you do every day of the year. Reyes is a beautiful baseball player who just recently ran into some injury issues, but I think will be fine. He's the kind of cornerstone you build around and AA basically stole him. Buehrle is a seasoned vet that brings it every year and eats up innings. He was a good addition as well. No one knew Josh Johnson was gonna crash and burn - and despite what people want to say, very few say Dickey coming in and blowing as well.
AA also stole Steve Delabar from the Mariners for Eric Thames. Delabar is a fantastic holder.
Marcum for Lawrie is also an amazing trade in retrospect - no matter if Marcum had continued success or not.
He's built the team right IMO, he needs immediate help in the starting rotation after what appears to be a dead deal with Dickey coming in, but aside from that, he's built a lineup where Reyes leads off, Cabrera, Bautista, Encarnacion, Lind, Lawrie and Rasmus follow. With ANY kind of starting pitching, that lineup should be in contention for a wild card.
