They have no intention of making it work in Phoenix. The NHL is brokering a sweetheart deal for Jerry Reinsdorf that will cost him nothing. He's literally getting a free team and Glendale are going to get the same buggering that Moyes got.

Sorry Glendale, not Phoenix... either way, doesn't look like the team's leaving Arizona.

It is leaving. But not until Glendale coughs up even more money and Reinsdorf gets a free team.

Reinsdorf out again and:

Daryl Jones, CEO of Ice Edge Holdings, the lone group in discussions with the City of Glendale to buy and keep the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena, is not sure his team will be able to put together a financing package to purchase the team.

"It's hard to gauge the probability of this deal closing," said Jones.
"Realistically, there has been a great deal of financial turmoil in the world over the last 45 days, sovereign-debt issues and stock market corrections, which are going to make it harder for us, or any group, to close this transaction. That being said, we do remain optimistic."

Won't be too hard for a group with actual cash, Daryl...

Just keep them tied up until after July 1 so we can relieve them of one Z.Michalek.

Much appreciated!

This is the biggest clusterfuck in the history of pro sports. It is an absolute joke. The league is run by a bunch of children. How this city has been able to keep its franchise this long is shocking.

The biggest shock to everyone was the Glendale agreed to assume the losses next year. What are you doing you idiots? Move the team to Winnipeg and get it over with. Don't even need to change divisions or anything.

Next up: Florida and Atlanta.

How can I say this when the Sens went through similar situations? We're the CAPITAL of Canada, someone was gonna come along and buy us. What right does Florida or Atlanta have keeping an NHL franchise? They're driving down league revenues and it will NEVER change.

It failed once in Atlanta and it's gonna fail again.

From what I can tell, that was just a delay tactic to get the sale through. They have no intention of assuming losses, nor is it legal to do so in that state. They, and the NHL, fully expect new ownership to be in place by the deadline (I can't remember what that date is, though).

As I said before, if not for the board of Nelson Peltz' company voting against buying the Senators, we would have lost the team.

The NHL would NOT have bought our team until a local buyer was found. That's a key difference. And, as you said, this is a hockey market. Our challenges had nothing to do with attendance or even revenues. It was an overextended owner. Period!

The NHL is refuting a report out of Toronto that says the city of Glendale, Ariz., has failed in its initial attempt to raise $100 million in bonds to keep the NHL's Coyotes in Phoenix...

...Hulsizer's deal calls for Glendale to pay him $100 million up front, backstopping his purchase of the franchise from the NHL for an estimated $170 million.

Glendale would attempt to recoup the money by charging for parking at all Jobing.comArena events.

Too bad they can't find an all-cash offer for that team, even if it means moving them.

Remember when Glendale turned down that 50 million cash payable directly to them to soften the blow of the team leaving? Laugh1

Now the best they can do is pay a guy 100 million to take the team. Laughing3

Shocking development.

And poor RIM-Jim is not exactly in a position to throw cash around. Meanwhile, back in Quebec City, things are heating up. More to come.

I'm sure this topic will heat up very soon... Glendale is due to make a payment to the NHL very soon... and they may not even be able to make it... Glendale is in some serious debt problems and is in the process of laying off staff and raising taxes to address the issue. And they're propping up the Coyotes in the mean time... residents can't be too happy about that.

Some updates on the situation here:

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/glendale-keeps-paying-and-paying-and-paying-152470515.html

The new ownership will have to work out a lease deal with the city and it will have to get approved and have the blessing of the Goldwater Institute.

How long can this continue?
