The original source headline reads: "An Offer Worthy of the Godfather". Which is what Pete Lacroix essentially is in Colorado, for some reason.

He's living off of the previous success of the team I suppose.

He's been running that team like he owns it for an awful long time. It's kind of messed up.

Roy as Coach and GM... wow... this could be interesting if he accepts.

TSN has coverage too:

apparently the big deal is to make sure he doesn't sign with montreal. if i was Roy, i'd go with the Avs cuz it doesn't matter what figure you are in Montreal, you usually hit the chopping block the next year. Laughing3

At least Roy has been running a Junior team for a while now.

With the third overall pick, the Colorada Avalanche draft, of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Goalie Oliver Roy.

Yes, I know Patty and Oliver aren't related, but let me have this joke :**:

Go for it. What do you actually have to lose? Potentially Statsny and Duchene's development will be fine depending on how good a developing coach Roy is, so...yeah, what could go wrong?

Maybe he'll also strap on the pads and help out there too. He can sell peanuts and beer during game if they run short on people to do that.

According to this May 25 posting by ESPN's Pierre Lebrun, Patrick Roy says there is no offer:

Roy denies job offer report

Another day, another report tying Patrick Roy to the Colorado Avalanche.

French news Web site ruefrontenac.com, citing sources, reported Sunday that Roy was offered both the GM and head coaching jobs by Avs president Pierre Lacroix.

There has been rampant speculation ever since Roy went to Denver earlier this month to meet with Lacroix.

"It's all rumors right now, people are speculating," Roy told ESPN.com Monday. "As I told you before, yes I spoke with Pierre Lacroix and he asked me what my intentions were in my career going forward. But I have not had any formal offers from the Colorado Avalanche.

"Nothing has changed since the last time I spoke to you," he said.

He continues to careflly state that there have not been any formal offers. He does not deny talking; he does not offer any other reason for the talks; he says that Lacroiz expressed an interest in what he wants to do.

Hmm, let me think. He's a former star and legend with the Club; they just fired their GM and the coach (hired by that recently fired GM) had been fired by them before. Oh, and the team didn't do very well recently.

It definitely walks like a duck.

I was watching 110% last night and the panel there were trying to convince themselves that Roy was playing the Avs against the Habs. In fact, their "topic" was "Are the Habs Losing Roy to the Avs Again?". As if Roy was somehow the Habs property.

Apparently, Montreal covets Guy Boucher as well as Bulldogs head coach. Boucher is rumoured to be an assistant to Roys yet to be formalized coaching spot.

I'm actually a bit surprised that Gainey is still gainfully employed, to tell the truth. I was going under the assumption that they need a GM, first and foremost. Someone who could fix the situation they are in, which is pretty pathetic. They don't have enough talent to fill a lineup card, and UFAs don't want to go there.

So, unless they are looking at St. Patrick as their GM (and possibly coach as well) I am puzzled by the interest. Unless, of course, they were just trying to fill some airtime.
