Dont hate me for posting this but who would be willing trade and it kills me to say it,the A TRAIN.Once the shock wears off and you think about it he is the only thing teams really want off our roster. It would clear space on the over crowded blue line give us 3.2 mil in cap, again i love u anton but these are desperate times Crying

Everything depends on the return. I think the only player I absolutely don't move is Alfredsson, and that's for sentimentality's sake.

The cap-space is pretty irrelevant, since it would be replaced by the incoming guy.

I'd probably only deal him in a package for a better defenceman like Weber (example, don't ever think it'll happen).

I had thought of Volchie and our first for Tampa's first (resulting in Hedman) but I don't think that's in line with the direction of this team (ie, competing sooner rather than later).

Thats what i think might happen if murray is true to his word about making a big splash,i could see team like LA wanting a spezza and us wanting drew doughty and a frolov maybe throwing a volchie in would make that happen

Well, I certainly don't see LA giving up Doughty.

But that's the kind of defenceman it would take. I'm not crazy about moving #24 because he's relatively cheap and personifies the sacrifice needed to win in the post-season.

I've thought about it many, many times. Only because of his worth on the market and what we would get back.

But every road leads back to: don't do it!

Yeah i love him too ,but i was thinking back to what the Bill belichek coach of the new england patriots said about cap management, during the bowl runs He said that u cant fall in love with players because you always have to replace them with cheaper versions,And looking at detroit,s ken holland comment on you dont overpay for any player rings true.Volchie is a ufa after next year he will ask for about 4.5 mil and be worth it but ,can we afford him

Umm no. Just....no. He's everything that a successful team needs, and brings so many things that so few are willing to do. The sacrifice of his own well being even on a team that toiled near the bottom of the standings cannot be overlooked. This team has been playing for nothing more than pride as a whole for awhile now.

I agree with asq2 (big surprise there!). Only if it's a guy like Weber or Doughty (which would never happen), and even then I have to seriously think about. Off the top of my head I can't think of more than a half dozen guys in the league that are comparable to Volchenkov. I'd trade Phillips instead in a heartbeat. Instantly.

He definitely embodies what we missed when we had all those talented teams who got blown out in the first round of the playoffs.

We should know by now that skill means nothing if you don't have any heart, sacrifice or physicality to go along with it.

Heh, don't worry about it.

In a season this disappointing (though not surprising, if you look at the team last year after the first 20 or so games), it's hard not to think about trading everybody.

Hah. No worries. No one player is untradable. But Volchenkov is getting really close to to Alfie in terms of tradability for the Sens. However, the possibility exists (however remote) that someone phones Murray and blows his skirt off with an offer for Volchie. In that case, you'd have no choice. In the end, hockey is a business and sometimes decisions have to be made that clash with personal opinion or popular opinion.

I'll pose a hypothetical trade...and let's see what you guys would do....

To Ottawa

D Shea Weber

To Nashville

D Anton Volchenkov
F Nick Foligno
2009 1st round pick

Do you do this deal?

I turn it down, because the price is too high. Keep in mind that I am a HUGE fan of Shea Weber.

I have to agree Hemlock. Although I adore Weber, the asking price from Nashville is WAY too high.

And as for trading A-Train, I don't think I'd ever do it; no mattter what the return was; simply because he embodies so many things teams NEED and feed-off, and no matter who was coming back, that's a HUGE void to fill.

What makes this interesting is Melnyk's statement that he's willing to spend to the cap max next season; which means Murray will go balls-out (one hopes anyway) and hopefully snag what he needs to make this team scary or at least much more competitive to go for a run NOW, and then NEXT off-season will, when the cap is rumored to drop by as much as 10 - 11%, we'll see some players moved, dumped, etc...

This could be a VERY interesting off-season indeed.

I would keep an eye on Calgary. If they lay an egg in the playoffs, they will make a nice dance partner.

That deal only gets done if Murray is actively looking to get fired.
