Vermette was a team player as well as a strong Penalty Killer and Face off specialist who just was never going to get his shot as a top six here in Ottawa. He seems to genuinely be disappointed he won't be able to continue his career here in Ottawa as well. I know I'm disappointed to see him go and remain skeptical that Leclaire can stay healthy. I am still very happy for Vermette and I'm sure he'll see this as a great opportunity in due time as well. He will be relied on as a top six forward on Columbus and may even get a chance to play along side Rick Nash so this could do wonders for his career. He can fit into a Hitchc*ck Defensive style game quite nicely and I'm sure the Blue Jackets fans will be pleasantly surprised with the offensive threat he brings on the PK as well as his overall speed.

If you'd like to say your farewell, I encourage you to do so in here and i'll see if I can get these messages passed onto Vermette through the Ottawa Senators.

Good bye and Good luck Vermette. I know you'll be missed.

Vermie...thank you for all the time you played here as a Senator, I never met him personally, but word is, Vermie was the nicest and most down to earth guy on the team. We are saddened to see you go, but these tough decisions have to be made sometime and am definitely certain your career will continue to flourish in Columbus, plus every time we lose a offensive/defensive faceoff and we all curse, will be thinking of you Vermette. The blue jacket fans will be loving how you can win faceoffs easily and are one of the best pk people out there. We all thank you again Vermie, and wish you all the best in continuing your career in Columbus.

Will be nice to see Antoine seize the opportunity he will be given in the Buckeye State. One of my favorite Senators ever!

Bonne chance!

I'll be waiting to see those highlight reel goals ... just with a bit more frequency, eh?

I can't believe no-one else posted here yet. I guess I'll just have to add to my previous post.

Antoine, I hope you do fantastic in Nashville. I may not completely agree with Cap'n's assessment that you never got the chance to play top-six here, but I'll miss you none-the-less. I can only hope that Peter Regin can pick it up in the face off circle.

See you in the finals one year, eh?

later, happy I don't have to be frustrated seeing the Sens lose another
shootout because you decided to go back hand on the ice again and again
and again.

Vermette,

What can I say, it's been a great few seasons watching you dominate in the face-offs, amazing me on the PK and just being a generally likeable character. You will be missed from this Sens fan and I want to wish you the best as you continue your career and I'm sure you'll take this opportunity to thrive.

Bonne chance Antoine et je vous souhaite beaucoup plus d'annees de hockey formidable!

You were definitely one of my favorites on this team. THe faceoffs, the PK, those were your assets. But for me, there were more important things that you did for this team, you were great in interviews, not boring like the majority of players, down to earth and always sincere, great guy in the community, and most of all, you cared about your organization. I know the mustache was your idea.
Bonne Chance Antoine, et reviens a Ottawa en 2011!

I think your departure will serve as a much needed wake-up call to the other slackers on this team. May you serve as inspiration to your buddy Spez, the king of the over-revered, spoiled, pampered little babies.

Bonne chance, Antoine...a truly generous and personable individual who gave much of his time to the community, charity work like the Boys & Girls Clubs, and public service TV spots against drunk driving.

A class act, unwavering effort, and possibly the best two-way player on the Senators.

Columbus seems to think highly enough of him that they traded Pascal Leclaire in return...so hoping Antoine gets to show his stuff under a great coach in Hitch, and enjoys success in the playoffs.

Nous sommes de tout coeur avec toi!

What's to say Clutch. the yehs and nehs were about 50/50 with this guy. He was not a premiere player on this team. Now if it was Alfredsson that was traded, then I would expect the fans to pour out of the woodwork. Vermette....not so much

ditto, Vermette was an average player and he seemed like a good
teammate and person. No reason to shed tears for his
departure.

I wish him the best health wise but I hope he continues to underachieve as a player.
