Pretty solid trade I'd say. Doesn't change the fact that Fleury blows balls.

well that's his problem, he's supposed to save pucks, not blow balls, sheesh. Did he miss the memo?

Yeah...still, they'll end up regretting that. Why must they move so much? I thought Neidermayer was coming off the books, and Selanne and Beauchemin etc?

They'll probably end up regretting it as much as we are regretting losing Chara. Mind you they still have Neidermeyer...for how long though??

I don't think they should move Pronger at all.

well as long as he doesn't diddle any 19 years olds, he will stay in anaheim, oh yes, I went there lol.

You know what? I'll go on record right now and say that Neidermayer moves this deadline and Pronger stays put.

Pronger's better, signed for another year - and now that you have the tissue soft Whitney back there, you need some of the grit that Pronger brings.

okay, so what's the going rate for niedermayer then? does he fetch the same return that burke things kaberle gets?

More? That would be my guess. Back to NJ he goes for a 1st, 2nd and a high level prospect.

Burke is dreaming, there's no market for teams to take on salary like that and give up a 1st, a ready made player and a blue chip prospect. Good luck Burke.

Neidermayer gives NJ, Washington (wow), Philly etc. instant Cup credibility.

Neidermayer is a pure rental. I would have to say his value is less than a Kaberle, Kubina, Whitney, etc. Obviously Scott is a good player and all that, but he's a UFA and not just that, but a UFA that has commitment issues. There's a good chance he doesn't play ever again after this year (thank god). Sorry, but I lost a lot of respect when he sat out nearly a full season and came back.

Kaberle should have the most value considering his age and contract. If you're giving up something, he's the best option out there cause you get a good contract.

Pittsburgh also got Eric Tangradi, captain of the Belleville Bulls. Very good prospect, from Philly. Some pretty much a local kid.

I definitely agree with your explanation, but the desperation factor comes into this as well, a desperate GM will throw everything he can at a rental if he thinks it will save his job.

I don't think the Ducks are that far away from becoming a legit playoff team. Their D is unreal now.

Pronger-Whitney
Niedermayer-Beauchemin
Montador-Hedican

That is a solid, solid back end. If they can pick up a second line center, a better than average one, these guys might rock and roll to another cup.

That can also happen, and while Neidermayer > Kaberle short term, Kaberle > Neidermayer in the long run. Both improve the team they go to, but if you have to give up a lot, Kaberle is the one you should go for.

If I am Anaheim, I sell Scott and even Rob as a package to encourage the trade, and try to get a pick, prospect, possibly a signed defenceman. With almost 100% of their D free agents, they need to get some players back their under contract. Pronger should be traded, but either in the off season or next deadline, cause he's still good and still signed.

I think you underestimate the fear you put into the other teams in the East by acquiring Neidermayer - and the good thing about him is - no strings whatsoever. You don't have to worry about the cap going forward, just fit him in now.

I love Kaberle - and he'll get a nice package, but I can see Neids being the jewel in the crown for most teams.

I'll tell ya...if Washington gets him, then I might take their lack of G less seriously. Ditto for Philly.
