OK - please read the rest of the thread. I said I was joking abobut the topic, but come on. No Parking? No Roads? the city has grown around SBP? What are you talking about? Kanata may have been the only choice, but no one can argue that its current location isn't BRUTAL for the city.[/quote]

Someone is sensitive this morning. Lebretton Flats would be a nightmare to get in and out of. At least there is some sort of traffic options where the Arena is now...what would the option be if it were down town? I'm curious what part of town you live in, only because everyone I know who are in Orleans typically hate where the stadium is. It is where it is, but I still prefer getting in and out of it, than the Civic Centre, and that's exactly what having a stadium downtown would be like. Ever been to Boston, MSG, Toronto, and Montreal? Parking is a nightmare and getting to the game is a hassle. I'm quite happy with where the stadium is, and seeing as it cost nothing to the tax payers it made me happier. Don't go if it's such a problem I'm sure they'll find someone to take your tickets.

And I probably should have read the rest of the thread, but trying to portray sarcastic humor through the internet is tough so adding (**joke**) would have make it a little more obvious, but then again gauging from your reaction to my post I don't think it was so much a post as hopeful anticipation that someone would argue with you.

I didn't want an argument, I didn't want to talk about it - like I said, the topic has been beaten to death. Yes, I have been to plenty of games in Toronto, and plenty in Ottawa. Here's the difference: In Toronto, you have 20,000 fans coming from east, west and north, converging on a central location directly on the subway line and go train. They are not fighting rush-hour traffic, rather they are going against it. In Ottawa, there are 20,000 fans, most of whom are traveling west to go to the rink, with poor public transportation along a route that is already congested with commuter traffic. I have not been to games in Boston, Montreal or New York, so I cannot speak to those situations. Of course people in Orleans hate it, so do people living downton (like me) and I would assume those living in Gatineau and Ottawa south hate it as well. The only ones I can see liking the location of SBP are those living west of the city - and that is what makes it a brutal location.

Montreal dosen't have anywhere near the problems Ottawa has, Montreal's Subway goes right underneath the Bell centre... I've gone to a game in Montreal and i'm back at my hotel room 20 minutes after the game.. Here i'm still waiting to leave my parking spot 20 minutes after the game...

People make it sound like SBP is hours away from Downtown or something. I come from Orleans and I go straight to the games from work on weeknights. I don't have a problem with it being where it is. Sure it would have made more sense to have it downtown IF we had a better transit system and downtown road system to handle it but we don't. I can't imagine trying to get to a game on a weeknight if the stadium was downtown.

Also all those people that keep jokingly calling the Senators the Kanata Senators: GET A LIFE!

Oh and this isn't a breaking story so that's why it's been moved. Just an FYI.

Really!

Lately I've been working downtown, way downtown, on Sussex. With the transit strike we've been commuting. The *quickest* way out of downtown turns out to be to take the Alexandra bridge to Hull (in the neighboring province of Quebec, for those not from around these pats), then right back over using the Du Portage bridge. That's about 3 km to bypass a 2 km stretch of downtown, and it saved us about 10-15 minutes.

I remember when the visiting NHL players complained that they had to stay all the way downtown, since there were no 4-star hotels in Kanata (apparently the CBA says they have to stay at 4+ star hotels). I'd bet getting across Manhattan to MSG takes longer than getting from The Westin out to Kanata.

Of course when the Holiday Inn Select (4 star) was built the players still preferred to stay downtown.

Oh, as for Neil, I don't really care either way, as long as he doesn't do it when he loses a fight. You've got to admit, that he pretty much handled Knopka like he was a teenager.

I'm pretty sure that transporation would have been addressed to an extent....didn't the first owner (I can't remember his name) have to pay for the Queensway off ramp? Doesn't make the drive there enjoyable, but a hell of a lot better than without one....

Really? How do you think they would have addressed it?

I honestly don't know....allowing only one-way traffic along certain roads headed towards the rink before games, and the other way after games (like Jarvis St in Toronto, or the bridge heading to Gatineau here in Ottawa). My main point (after the Chris Neil thing) is that a centrally located building in a city allows for cars/busses/pedestrians to disperse in all directions after an event rather than everyone headed in the same direction to go home. People could even walk home, or take a cab depending on where they live, walk to their office parking lot, or just go to a near-by establishment to let the rush die down. I was just saying that if they could get "whatever his name was" to fork over millions for an offramp, they may have been able to accomodate a downtown rink somewhere in the core.

As far as I know he wanted to have the Team downtown but it was the City that wouldn't allow it.

that's what I thought too. Is there a way to close this thread? it wasn't supposed to be about the location of SBP, because the argument is irrelevant.

I can close it but lets just get the topic back on the rails.

Sometimes I don't approve of Neil doing that at all. Like...dude...worry about the game first, the crowd second. If I was on the opposing team, it would fire ME up.

I think the fight gets the crowd going on its own, and that he can leave the cheerleading to the ...... hey, wait a minute.....we need freakin' cheerleaders! Then Neil can focus on just doing his job. Pretend I never wrote that....back to Neil.
