Isn't that par for the course during the regular season though? All the games I've been to at SBP have been like that. The only time there's a loud crowd is if the Leafs or Habs are in town and the noise is coming from their fans.

In the playoffs, it's a whole different place though.

Its awesome in the playoffs. And I think the noise during the Montreal games comes mostly from the Montreal to Ottawa booze-bus Hab fans. Even Toronto games haven't been that loud lately. Not the Ottawa-based Hab fans who drive to the games.

But I do agree it was electric, when we were in the finals... But that's also when it's all the real fans who are there...

I disagree.. It's only different come 2nd round or third round.. I went to the first round the year we went to the finals and I couldn't believe it, it was ridiculous... Game was tied 1-1 with 5 minutes left and people were still running for the exits to beat the traffic, I really could not understand it...

I imagine these things vary from year to year. I went to game 5 of the OTT-PIT series (round 1) in '07 -- the game we closed out the series -- and the crowd was electric. It featured all kinds of engagement from the fans, including repeated, roaring taunting of Fleury, Crosby, and Roberts.

There's no denying that the average crowd at a Sens game, however, is sitting politely with their legs crossed sipping on lattes, and saying little to nothing. It's a function of the city's culture, and specifically of Kanata's culture, more than anything else.

From what I've heard, the ACC is far worse though... if nothing exciting is happening, all you can hear is the suits typing away on their BB's closing deals and not watching the game.

Yeah I agree, it's a boring government town... If they made the SBP more accesible (ie: bring the O-train to SBP, add a direct on-ramp to the 417, etc... )
I think they crowd would be more into it..

Yeah but where? That was their problem... They had no room... the building in Kanata isn't the problem.. It's building it there but making it hard to get in and out...

I was kidding - the "they should have built it downton" discussion has been beaten to death. If the new train stops at SBP, the place will get a lot louder. Since Booze = Noise, Driving = No Booze and No Rail = Driving, Rail should = Noise.

Lebreton Flats! Was a perfect location. Right on a transit route, too - not that it would make much of a difference at this point.

Don't hold your breath. Maybe in 2030, but certainly not any time soon, unfortunately.

Yeah I remember when they were planning, Lebreton Flats came up and then was rejected right away, as if it wasn't an option.. I don't remeber why.. I was pretty young.. I agree I would have loved Lebreton, it would have been perfect, but i'm pretty sure they couldn't build there.. Cause that would have been the logical choice for sure... anyone remember the reason?

Well, they eventually built the War Museum there. Not sure why the couldn't build there before.

Downtown location + Transit system + close to bars = EVERYBODY WINS!!!!

sorry about the topic swing - probably my fault, but I really was kidding about discussing the location of SBP. Back to Neil. Again, I think he's got to quit his showboating after a fight. Do what you're paid to do. It's the same as someone showboating after making a tackle in football. Why are you dancing? you just made a tackle like you're supposed to. Man, I really don't know why this bothers me so much!

So exactly where was this arena going to go down town? It's not like there was tonnes of real estate and please don't mention Lebretton Flats. At the time it was an environmental nightmare and it cost the Canadian government millions to clean it up before putting the war Museum there. Not to mention that there would have been next to no parking and the roads to and from the flats are worse than the 417 could ever be. While it's a nice thought, it's a pipe dream. The logical choices were east/west and south and Kanata happened to have the cheapest land at the time. I don't blame them and the city has grown around them now.

As for Neil and his "antics", he's hardly doing anything embarrasing and it's pretty much the same as every other heavy weight. I prefer what he's doing to what Brashear does with his "dusting of the hands".

It's a small piece of the game, I find that there are way more offensive things happening, like our top PP line passing the puck around for 45 seconds without a shot while on a 5 on 3.

OK - please read the rest of the thread. I said I was joking abobut the topic, but come on. No Parking? No Roads? the city has grown around SBP? What are you talking about? Kanata may have been the only choice, but no one can argue that its current location isn't BRUTAL for the city.

Someone is sensitive this morning. Lebretton Flats would be a nightmare to get in and out of. At least there is some sort of traffic options where the Arena is now...what would the option be if it were down town? I'm curious what part of town you live in, only because everyone I know who are in Orleans typically hate where the stadium is. It is where it is, but I still prefer getting in and out of it, than the Civic Centre, and that's exactly what having a stadium downtown would be like. Ever been to Boston, MSG, Toronto, and Montreal? Parking is a nightmare and getting to the game is a hassle. I'm quite happy with where the stadium is, and seeing as it cost nothing to the tax payers it made me happier. Don't go if it's such a problem I'm sure they'll find someone to take your tickets.

And I probably should have read the rest of the thread, but trying to portray sarcastic humor through the internet is tough so adding (**joke**) would have make it a little more obvious, but then again gauging from your reaction to my post I don't think it was so much a post as hopeful anticipation that someone would argue with you.

I don't think it's comparable. Fighting doesn't necessarily happen every game, and in many cases it's to get your team into it. Get some energy going. I really like his crowd pumping, it's so much better than the jumbotron flashing Noise or the organ going. I really like his arms waiving, at least he's showing some emotion on the ice. His teammates can learn a thing or two. I'd prefer our players to be slamming their sticks to the indifference that is being shown.

I didn't want an argument, I didn't want to talk about it - like I said, the topic has been beaten to death. Yes, I have been to plenty of games in Toronto, and plenty in Ottawa. Here's the difference: In Toronto, you have 20,000 fans coming from east, west and north, converging on a central location directly on the subway line and go train. They are not fighting rush-hour traffic, rather they are going against it. In Ottawa, there are 20,000 fans, most of whom are traveling west to go to the rink, with poor public transportation along a route that is already congested with commuter traffic. I have not been to games in Boston, Montreal or New York, so I cannot speak to those situations. Of course people in Orleans hate it, so do people living downton (like me) and I would assume those living in Gatineau and Ottawa south hate it as well. The only ones I can see liking the location of SBP are those living west of the city - and that is what makes it a brutal location.
