If Marner takes less than $10 I think it will be shorter than 5.

Yeah. It sure feels like a lot of these new stars will try and opt for a Deal that takes them to FAA. I still say not all of them will get it.

Even some of the big stars won’t . It depends what you value most. Some really want to get that big payday quick and fast. Some prefer security of long contracts while others will reason that in order to land a competitive team they have to make it work for the whole team.

Tell you what. Toronto will wind up being a huge experiment that other teams might use to dissuade their players to just look at cashing out. (Unless that is players ar only interested in cashing out and leaving the market)
If Toronto winds up not being able to put a true Stanley cup contender because of a giving these huge deals to only a few players without being able to surround them you will see the star players leave and the team falling apart. And it won’t take 7 years. Between next year and the end of the Matthews contract is a good time period to evaluate how they handle it all.

Time will tell. But it will be interesting to watch.
