Do you know they started 4-11 last year?
yes but in my eyes they're not necessarily in a better spot now and other teams in their division got better.

That's pretty much it. If they fall behind like last year don't expect them to come storming back. The teams that are struggling right now have significant injuries, which likely means they'll imrove as the season progresses. Caps, Isles, Devils are off to hot starts and Pittsburgh looks very strong.

Mason sucks. Maybe that's part of their problem. Cheering

that certainly plays a part in this.

Standings:

Spader - 107
Neely - 106
Tim1_2 - 105
Wprager - 102
HobieSens - 101
Flo - 98
Ev - 97
DennyCrane - 97
SSF - 96
SpezDispensed - 89
SensGirl11 - 88
Oglethorpe - 86

For those down in the standings, heed the wise words of Eugene Melnyk:

But it’s very early in the season. You know, we’re at the quarter pole. And if this was a horse race, I bet you couldn’t tell me who was at the quarter pole in the Kentucky Derby this year, but a lot of horse players who could tell you who would win. So, we’ve got some time.”

And for the tiebreaker:

Buffalo 2-8-0: 4 points
Carolina 0-6-2: 2 points

Ev's pick for worst record would be in the playoffs if they started today (Calgary).

I would like to hear why Big Ev thought that Calgary would be worse than Carolina or Buffalo.

Interesting article on www.sportsline.com about the importance of a fast start:

Colorado and Boston are hurting everyone pretty well the same. Whomever guesses the Metro correctly will most likely win. That being said, I get the feeling we could look at that division on March 1st and still not be sure which teams get in.

I think Carolina will rebound with Staal. I thought Buffalo had pretty good forwards. I thought Calgary had no forwards which they still don't. But yeah Calgary is decent so that's wrong.

Calgary doesn't have "no forwards", what they have is a lot of 2nd-tier guys, and they're scoring by committee. They don't have one forward averaging more than 18 minutes a night and only their goons under 12 minutes a night. Mason Raymond has been a nice addition for them, and you have TJ Brodie (8 pts, +6) and Giordano playing great on the blueline for them.

it's still early. yall see how it will work out by mid december.
biggest surprise for me is NYI. i still expect them to drop down and be fighting for a wild card spot. (I had doubts on Boston but i didn't figure they'd have problems against their own division which they haven't played that much.)

Point totals at end of month, but if the playoffs started today:

Pacific: Anaheim, Vancouver, Calgary, LA, San Jose
Central: St. Louis, Nashville, Winnipeg
Metro: Pittsburgh, NYI, Washington
Atlantic: Montreal, Tampa, Toronto, Ottawa, Boston

As far as the tiebreaker goes, I was in Buffalo for the Penguins/Sabres tilt last Saturday night. The Sabres are the worst hockey team I have ever seen, and that includes the expansion era Sens.
