I think Chuck Wang needs to relax, JT can sell himself, maybe not right now, but he will. :^^^^:

Rumours are flying anywhere from a 6-year deal to a 10-12 year deal...

Are there any swirlings to go along with those rumours? Anything that starts with "Marty York has learned" will do.

wow, but you would be more inclined to do it for a guy like Luongo compared to a DiPietro.

Yes. Luongo is a much safer bet than DiPietro.

10-12 years at $5.5M/year would be a nice low cap hit, and make use of that "retire early loop hole" that seems to be the rage these days.

The Vancouver Canucks and all-star goaltender Roberto Luongo will have a deal on an extension in place before the start of training camp, sportsnet.ca has confirmed.

The had agreed reached a deal in principle, with only minor details left to be worked out. The term and salary have been agreed upon and an official announcement is expected sometime before the club opens their camp on Sept. 13, the date Luongo had set as a deadline for negotiations.

ESPN INSIDER provides this snapshot as of this afternoon...

Luongo signing Hossa-like deal?

1:10PM ET Roberto Luongo | Canucks ESPN.COM INSIDER

Some news outlets are reporting that Roberto Luongo has agreed to an extension with the Canucks, but ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun talked to Luongo's agent and Canucks GM Mike Gillis, and both said the deal is not done yet.

Word is that the contract is a front-loaded 12-year deal worth $64 million -- slightly more than the 12-year deal Marian Hossa signed earlier this offseason. It's rumored that only the details of the contract have to be worked out.

Still, Gillis was fishing in the Queen Charlotte Islands on Monday like a man who already has his franchise goalie under contract.

That's a pretty decent deal if they got him at a cap hit of 5.333 for the next little while.
