The summer of strike has begun.

Looks like i'll be taking the bus between Toronto and Ottawa next week. Not looking forward to that, seeing as I'm 6'5, and it's a 5 hour bus ride with minimal leg room.

it's only a 40minute flight.

People should realize how lucky they are to be employed during these difficult times. There are people being laid off left right and center. I don't get it.

my aunt from peterborough is down here in NB and their way back was by train on August 5th, looks like they will either be staying longer or changing their travel plans if the strike isn't averted by that time.

Can we blame this one on Heater, too? No? Well, how about Bettman?

Holy crap!?! I've looked at trains from Halifax to Ottawa, but they are like 22 hours long. It's also cheaper to fly. But that's from Halifax, there are more flights readily available.

They've been without a contract for 2 and a half years... which seems totally crazy... and the timing is odd... always in the summer with these strikes.

I'd look into a flight. Porter flys out of Toronto Island and can have some good prices.

The bus totally sucks. I will NEVER take the bus again.

well that is how I see it, but they are older, they like to travel by train over plane as they have all the time in the world, maybe their senior discount makes up the difference, I am unsure on that one.

The strike has ended. Both sides have agreed to binding arbitration:

Good news for travelers.

Now, we'll see about this midnight garbage strike deadline tonight...

Sigh...

Somebody needs to have the balls to just bring in replacement workers.

The striking workers need to recognize that they are lucky to have a job at all. They should appreciate this, instead of whining about pay raises of "only" 6, 4, or even 2% p.a.

Ask the former Nortel worker, who now has no job and probably no pension, and see how quickly they would jump at the chance to get paid an honest day's pay for an honest day's work.
