I don't think I'd do it straight up, but a package revolving around Phil Kessel for the 3rd overall pick could be very interesting for Colorado...perhaps a Tukka Rask coming along in the package might be of mutual benefit to both sides.

In many years my answer would be yes, but this draft just seems to have too many "can't miss" prospects.

No way! Duchense is a keeper. And if NYI or TB takes him, you get Hedman.

Just to be clear...

This was NOT a 'ridiculous CKAC report'...this was a news item from the Boston Herald, which was picked up by Corus/CKAC, which simply passed on what The Herald had written.

http://www.corussports.com/hockey/phil_kessel_avec_avalanche-20090603-1587641.html

From The Herald:

Not so certain is whether the B’s will hang on to winger Phil Kessel, who also is headed toward RFA status next month. One source said yesterday the Bruins might trade Kessel for a high first-round pick in the upcoming NHL draft, with the Colorado Avalanche (picking No. 3) a possible partner.

Such a deal could make sense for the Bruins because veteran sniper Marco Sturm, who missed most of last season with injuries, will be back.

The Bruins are facing probable salary cap issues, and if they do not have to pay Kessel, who likely will command the same type of money as Krejci, it would somewhat ease the dollar pinch general manager Peter Chiarelli is in while assembling the 2009-10 roster.

The rest of the article here:
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/hockey/bruins/view/2009_06_03_Bruins_move_to_sign_David_Krejci:_Center_scores_a_multiyear_deal/

Nowhere is it said that the Bruins and the Avalanche are considering swapping Kessel for the pick.

Kessel + makes sense for the Avs. Say Kessel plus Ward or their first pick or something along those lines. Kessel straight up is just silly....

emphatic no, Kessel is good, but not good enough for a 3rd overall pick straight up, especially when # 3 will be Duchene or MPS, depending on the rankings.
