Who DESERVES this award not who you think WILL win. I want a Members point of view on this one not a prediction.

I gotta think this guy is the runaway favourite for the award. Now while he didn't do much in the playoffs, the award is for the reg season only. The shutouts, the winning record, it's got to be him.

Mason. Not only a tremendous talent--amazing to watch--but easily his team's most valuable player this year.

To me it's a no brainer and I think on this one the voters for the award and GMHockey faithful will be in agreement.

DOughty got totally overlooked for this one. I hate that the stats basically choose who is up for the awards and more often than not the winners too. I think the awards shows are a joke.

Maybe next year GMHockey can come up with it's own Nominees and it's own Awards and vote on them?

I'm thinking an Offensive D award and a Defensive D award for starters.

I voted for Steve Mason, because if the Blue Jackets didn't have him, they would not done anything this year, let alone getting their first playoff birth, the numbers he compiled speak for themselves.

Here I picked Versteeg, I just think he was the most consistent from beginning to end, I didn't get a chance to witness Mason very much, and Ryan didn't really get going until the latter half ...

As a Hawks fan I'm happy to see Versteeg be nominated but watching all of these very fine young hockey players throughout the year Mason would seem to be the obvious choice.

Reports from the Chicago press indicated Versteeg was very flattered and honoured by the selection.

Versteeg's response to being nominated reflects his humility and work ethic. From the Chicago Sun Times:

''I had a lot of fun with [the Calder race],'' he said. ''I had a fairly good season, but not as good as I thought I could have had. I thought I had a little more in me."

The kid has the attitude to match his talent.

OK. How do we go about Nominations? I can't create a poll with 750 players LOL.

I suggest you create a separate group with a thread for each award (similar to ALL THINGS PLAYOFFS!).

The poll could be created for each award by taking up to the top ten players nominated...I expect you won't get more than five in each though.

Make sense?

Dude, we should. We should have the top 10 rookies and the top 3 vote getters get in. What a great idea. Great idea.
