Amazing trade for the Leafs. Coliacovo is just complete garbage. Steen is Okay, but Stempniak is a quality player.

Wow.... shocked Carlo had any value.

For those who do not wish to click the link, the deal was Carlo and Steen for Stempniak

Diddle me. Leafs win that trade in a landslide.

I like the trade for St Louis, they needed a center with McDonlad going down, and if Coliacavo can stay healthy they could have very stolen him from the Leafs. I dont think Steen is that far behind Stempniak at all.

Colaiacovo will never be healthy. The guy is a Martin Havlat on the backend. Steen is what he is. A 40-point guy with decent skating ability. However, he only had 4 points in 20 games this year.

And they've turned around and flipped those two for a guy who has 13 points in 14 games. Landslide.

Stempniak is a monster too, a big strong PWF.

EDIT:... I kind of came across there as Pierre Macguire, didn't I?

I really dont think it is, Carlo is still only 25 years old, and Steen is an alright center. Stempniak is pretty inconsistant as well at the same time as St Louis being very thin down the middle at this point. I said for the last week and 1/2 St Louis would be making a trade for a center, I just didnt know on what level. I think its pretty even but we will see how it goes.

Someone on another site (where I first saw it) had this as Coliacovo for Stemp, straight-up affraid I almost flipped my lid...
Even still, this is a ridiculous theft for the Leafs and Fletch.

Diddle.

I guess the Vermette for Stemp trade had legs. Murray backed off, for a reason?

Probably because Stempniak is Vermette light.

Really?

Absolutely. Look at their profiles and histories, for starters:

http://www2.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/players/Lee_Stempniak/
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/players/Antoine_Vermette/

They're basically twins or clones. Both are smaller guys around the same age, and they have similar career highs, and they get paid the roughly same amount and have the same amount of time left on their contracts. The only differences between the two are that Vermette produced at a PPG rate at times during his minor and junior years whereas Stempniak didn't; Vermette has been consistently trending up, points-wise, whereas Stempniak has been inconsistent; and Vermette is hands-down the better defensive player.

I'd take Vermette any day, even factoring in the two players' current performances.
