How is he safe might I ask?? Because he makes too much money and sucks?

It's impossible to convince you. Your mind is set. The only thing that would convince you is if he's still with the Sens next season.

Thats exactly what would convince me. Or if he showed any ability at all to play with only 1 all star on his wing. Even better, if he could get something done by himself, not sulk on the ice, and actually put an effort in when things arnt going his way.

Sportsnet is calling it "the Riot Act" that was read by Murray.

Let's hope the message sinks in. Shape up, or get your bags packed just in case...

Murray didnt even deny trading Spezza this time... Im not even saying trading Spezza is the answer, Im saying its a possibility and could happen on top of other points about Spezza's play.

Oh Please let it sink in.
Although really, Stargate said it best when she posted that the Sens have been spinning in the media for weeks now, so I too am now of the opinion that it's fine for them to keep talking, but NOW, as Murray has indicated, is the time for them ALL to step up, show up and compete.

So, let's see it boys. Compete and show us, the fans, that you do not BELONG in the basement.

If it doesnt, this team is in for a looooong season. You think its bad now, imagine what it would be like going into the new year 10 points out of a playoffs spot.

10 points in the East might as well be 50 points, because if you get that far back, playing in the NE, and points being given out, what it seems like every game, the Sens wont be near the playoffs.

These are the Caps of last year and they dont play in the SE. If it doesnt sink in now with the guys, it never will. Last night there were still guys giving an effort, even if they didnt play well.

Again, if he denies it, Spezza and the entire TEAM know without a doubt that nothing is in the works and Murray is just 'venting' and nothing more.
Even if they THINK he's bluffing, he still needs to maintain at least the illusion that other teams are calling and that they could easily be gone...

I agree with that, but the thing is, do the guys in there even care if he is bluffing or not? I think that is the bigger issue. It is very possible, not just 1 guy, but a lot of guys in there just dont care about the Ottawa Senators.

You may have a point, and certainly one could infer that the ones who DO care could weed out the deadweight, apathetic players?

I think last night was a good indication of who may not care, and tomorrow will dicate who really doesnt care.

Well, I really don't think it's a BUNCH of players who don't care. I really don't think it's that bad...yet.

Its getting there man, I have lost all my faith in the group of guys in that room to be competitve. I mean, this is actually the last straw for the Sens, if this doesnt work, changes are coming.

After everything last year, the changes made, you would have think that was a strong enough message for the guys in there. It wasnt.

I maintain that it's not a matter of effort with this group, I think it's a lack of foot speed combined with the fact that there are a lot of STUPID (in a hockey sense) players on this team.

How many times do you have to be told that you have to be on the defensive side of a puck battle against the boards. How many times do you see shots directly into opposing shin pads, a disease we call Mezitis. So, so, so stupid.

LOL!!! Mezitis! Awesome!

So true.

I find that hard to believe Neely. There are a LOT of guys in the room that I think like playing for Ottawa, and care about the franchise.

This includes first and foremost, Daniel Alfredsson.

It seems like anyone who doesn't want to be here are prompty sent packing. I can't believe it would be a friendly place to be if you weren't giving your all.

Winchester, Kuba, Volchenkov, Ruutu are all 100% safe.
Spezza, McAmmond, Donovan, Smith, Foligno, and Picard are all relatively safe.
Vermette, Kelly, Neil, Schubert are the ones who seem to be eternally on the chopping block. If something is to happen, its these 4 players who should be most concerned.

I think I wrote something to that effect a while back cash.

Couldn't agree more. (about if someone going, it's Vermette, Schubert, Neil, Kelly, and in that order).

The only difference I had was that Kuba was only 99% safe. If management evaluates he's a "sell high" candidate, and the return is a better PMD, he could go. But that's a long shot IMO.
