I think the guys we targeted from the beginning are still around. Reading and listening to dorion, I doubt they ever wanted a Purcell type. Brandon pirri sounds exactly like the kind of guy they'd sign, but are probably hoping to get him for 2 or 2.5 million.

They might also be looking at guys like nick Spaling as a depth forward who can help lift our pk numbers up.

Pirri might be ok but isnt he kinda Dung defensively ? I can't remember.

I don't think he's that bad defensively. I never heard anything about that really.

I'm glad we didn't do anything silly so far, but I'm not sure doing nothing is the best option either.

He said he was looking for a 3rd pairing D-man to complement Wideman and Borowiecki. Pretty sure we can find that player internally without looking very hard. The only thing is we are already missing quite a bit of experience (Phillips/Cowen/Wiercioch) so they may prefer to not simply give the job to a rookie.

Meh, if they like Paul that much, they might just be happy at forward for now. I'm 100% they'll get a D-man though.

Optically, that would be pretty disastrous IMO. They want to lock Hoffman up pronto.

With the way the fan base is right now they better lock him for a number of years. I really doubt they get comparable value back in a trade.

Whoever will come cheap to fit under the budget. I mean why else would we be taking so long to sign someone?

I guess because they don't really need a top flight guy necessarily, so they have offers out to whoever they like. Chirp mentioned Gagner, but I find that hard to believe.

Maybe one year on Seidenberg, although that's very risky to bank on him doing anything.
