Datsyuk packing it in. I won't have to hear about how great he is when he actually isn't anymore. Thank you.

But they're in the playoffs. Odd that he'd announce anything until their playoffs are done. I mean, it's only like another couple weeks at most.

There are also rumors Zetterberg is thinking if retiring.

And his $5.75M is on their cap, unless they can pretend he is injured (in which case, he would do a "Phillips"). If he bolts to the KHL they can't even pretend he's injured. They just might have to "Pronger" him to a team struggling to reach the floor (Leafs?)

So Ovechkin scores a hattrick to get to 50. Only 3rd player *ever* to score 50 7 times (Gretzky and Bossy did it 9 times each).

And in that same game Holtby tied Brodeur's record of 48 wins in a season. Brodeur did this in 78 games, Holtby in 66. That is something.

Caps host the Ducks tonight in the regular season finale.

Holtby isn't even playing. A bit surprised, to be honest. He's only played 66 games so he's hardly over-worked. Oh, well, he has a share of the record and the fact that he did it in 12 fewer games, to me, at least, he should be the record holder (with Brodeur listed below him).

I'm not surprised. The record is great and all, but if they aren't 100% focused on the playoffs, then they're doing this wrong. Imagine how angry the fanbase would be if he was injured in the game and had to miss the playoffs when their window is wide open this year. Playing him in the game today would have been a big mistake.

I couldn't believe how many people were rested today. I was supposed to have 8 players playing today in fantasy and I had 3. Playoff bound teams should rest their players in a situation like that.

You know what the absolute best part is SSF? Our boy pierre mcguire scoffed at the notion that datsyuk was going to leave back to russia. "ha...we've heard that rumor before. I don't think Datsyuk would do that. Red wings are a class organization..." and it continues like that for an hour.

And what was even better? Pierre Mcguire refuting any concerns about the Boston Bruins. "I firmly believe they'll still make it, they'll figure things out, too much talent and leadership in that dressing room". LOL

I was just listening to a podcast from the Freakonomics channel (if you travel a lot by car, do yourself a favour and check it out). It was about why so many people who seem to be experts are so often wrong when they try to predict outcomes. The basic conclusions were that "industry experts" are often so arrogant about their status as "experts" that they don't question their beliefs or try to look at data from a different angle.

I think this applies to a billion percent of "hockey experts."

somebody should make a sound bite compilation of McGuire's nonsense for the season. would be good fun.
I don't hate Pierre, it's not like he's Damian Cox or anything. just comical

True, i don't hate Mcguire either, he makes alot of good points.  But he scoffs a lot at glaringly obvious things.  Never once acknowledged that the bruins were in trouble.  And the love for babcock, red wings, crosby is overwhelming at times.  Still, despite him being an idiot, he was pretty stoked when the sens drafted karlsson and told everyone 'don't worry, he's good!' when most of us didn't know who this scrawny kid from sweden was.

Thanks, I'll definitely check it out.  Ppl spend half their days in their car here.

i think he's just like a very knowledgeable fan. he's a bit of a homer for the teams and players he loves and that can be blinding at times. i listen to the things he says about prospects and players as more often then not he's right. he's also wrong at times and it can be pretty comical because he's so sure of himself. you're never gonna find an analyst who's always right(or else he'd be hired as a GM right away) but some are less cocky than others. makes it easier to laugh at them.

One of my favourite things about McGuire is when he developed this American inflection overnight when he got hired by NBC full-time and decided to move to the States. He's such a clown.
