BREAKING!

The @CanadiensMTL have announced that Carey Price and P.K. Subban won't play again this season.

I wonder if Price will play or be allowed to play in the World Cup?

I can only assume Price will be playing in the World Cup. It's not until September. Montreal might look on that favourably too seeing as Price would get a bunch of games in and be that much more "in the groove" when the NHL season starts in October.

Obviously it all depends on the specifics of his medical case.

If I was Team Canada I'd just pick someone else. I'm pretty sure there will be pressure from the Habs management to *not* push his knee in a meaningless tournament. It's one thing injuring it while trying to get your team to the playoffs, but if I was with the Habs I'd tell him in no uncertain terms to not push it too much.

Wait. You wouldn't pick the best goalie on the planet as one of your three goalies?

Eric Lindros did something good:

He wasn't the best goalie on the planet in the small number of games he played this season, then he injured his knee, then he re-injured his knee and hasn't played since then. It really shouldn't matter because of the rest of the team (if they pick the right ones) but at this point in time you can't say Price is the first choice. Mind you, by that thinking Stone should be on this team way ahead of Carter.

Well, if Price is healthy come September, you can bet he'll be our starter in the Worlds. I don't know what to tell you, other than that you're wrong.

Detroit is 3rd in the Atlantic, 93 points with 2 games to go. Boston is 2 points back, with 2 to go but is 2 ROWs behind the Red Wings. Boston hosts the Red Wings tonight, after Detroit defeated the Flyers at home last night. Tired team, but then Boston has been playing terrible of late. Even if they beat the tired Wings in regulation, they would still be behind them in the standings because of the ROWs.

The Flyers, after losing 3-0 in Detroit last night, travel to Toronto. Tired or not, that should be a W and they will be rooting for the Red Wings; if Detroit beats Boston (regulation or not) then the Flyers will pass the Bruins in the standings for that last Wildcard spot. Flyers have a game in hand as well.

After tonight's games the Bruins stay at home to host the Senators on Saturday. That will be their last regular season game. Nothing I'd love more than for the Sens to deal them a deathblow at home. Get Julien fired so he can come "home" and fix the Senators. Meanwhile, the Flyers come back home to host the non-fliers, as in Penguins, the flightless birds. And the Red Wings travel to NYC to face the Rangers.

If it's not all settled by Saturday night, then the Flyers travel to Brooklyn to face the Islanders on the last day of the regular season, Sunday night. That's a lot of games -- four in five nights. But don't worry, if they don't win they'll have lots of time to rest up.

If people think Julien can manage this team's roster and mix defence with a ferocious forecheck, then you hope boston loses and he gets fired

Julien or boudreau might be options if they both see 1st round exits.
i will lose my Dung if therrien ends up here.

I hate Therrien. I believe he's a terrible coach that usually alienates players and has to have a wiping boy at all times. It's usually the new guy that comes in and has potential but needs to be given opportunities to develop them. We've seen it with many players in Montreal.
He pretty much lost the room in Pittsburg because he couldn't connect with the players and I believe he's divided the room in Montreal also.

I want no part of it here.

Look, I'm not saying that they won't pick Price, only that *I* would have serious reservations. I cannot be wrong here as I'm saying this would be my choice.

Also, how can you say that Price is the best goalie in the world? He had a great season last year and won all kinds of awards. But this happens to goalies. A couple years ago Anderson set an all-time NHL record with the best single season SV%. Didn't make him the best goalie in the NHL the next season.

Right now Price is coming off a serious knee injury -- this is huge for a goaltender. So while he is still an elite-level goaltender overall, he is far from the best in the world given the simple fact that he has not played in a very long time because of a serious injury.

Also, check back his pre-season and the games he actually played in the regular season. He had a .936 SV% in October and that dipped a bit to .934 before he went down in early November. Pretty good, but not the best. Just a very quick search shows Lundqvist with .943 in October and Crawford and Jones (San Jose) with .938. Was he one of the best? Absolutely. Was he as good as last year? Impossible to know. Is he among the elite now? Depends on how his knee feels.

It sounds like Therrien will be sticking around in Montreal (yay!), but I don't think Murray would ever hire him anyway. And for those wanting Julien, keep in mind that the salary for a coach like that (experienced winner) will be very high compared to the peanuts we paid MacLean and are paying Cameron.

That said, I expect and want Cameron to return.

I misread, I thought you said you'd lose it if Julien came here.

No Therrien, thank heavens, but I doubt they would have wanted him here. They need a proven winner.

By the way, does anyone else think that maybe Therrien is safe only because he and Bergevin had decided fairly early on to tank the season? They were saying Price would be gone, what, 3-4 weeks and it turned out to be 4 months. If they knew all along he was going to be gone that long, he'd be rusty and out of game shape for the post-season. They have it a try for a while but then the injuries hit and they just figured better to lose and get a good draft pick. They needed some help up front and maybe getting a top-5 pick is the easiest way to do so.

I really doubt it. Maybe much later on they decided to throw the season under the bus but I doubt it. It's so easy to get canned in this league and I mean the GM as well that everyone fights for their lives. That kind of order has to come from ownership.

On another news we'd be drafting 12th now if the season ended today. Might have to throw the last game under the bus and hope we can sink a spot or two

I'd much rather sink the Bruins, get EK to 82 (or more) and Hoffman to 30, than go from 12th to 11th or 10th. Then we can troll Bruins fans on twitter, saying "Don't worry, now you have a 1% chance of drafting Matthews".
