Since I'm on Bobby Ryan watch again, he did nothing.  No points, no shots, no hits, no takeaways...despite 4:22 of PP time.

It was nice to see Chiasson get a goal.  He seems to be playing well lately, but it just seems the skill isn't there to finish/make plays.

Nick Paul looks like an NHLer...and it doesn't hurt that he's gigantic (6'4", 230lbs).

Eric Staal has gotta be on his way out of town.  He did nothing, and was a -3.

Nick Paul and Dzingel might land us Drouin.

I'd keep Smith on the wing.

I guess this means Chris Neil will be on L3?

I love Bobby Ryan, but if this disappearing act is a yearly thing, I don't see the benefit of him being on the team at that cap hit for the next 6 seasons.

Hope he can find his mojo again. Paul and Dzingel look good but I wouldn't be surprised if one of them gets traded for Drouin. Could be all a showcase.

And if not, then what becomes of Puempel?

I'd hardly be calling Bobby Ryan a dissapearing act at this point.

Bobby is fine. It's just because Stone got hot again and luck. Only so many points to go around.

I think you sell high with Smith this deadline

This is a ludicrous statement.

Bobby Ryan is the 5th best RW scorer in the NHL. Facepalm

Before you get all face-palmy, this was all brought up because I noted that it *SEEMS* like he might be starting a late-season slump like he did last year. He has 3 pts in his last 8 games. It could very well just be a little blip and he goes back to putting up points more consistently. The only reason I even mentioned it was because this was the exact time last year when he totally vanished.

I've had a long hate-affair with Eric Staal. Seeing him sitting on the bench near the end of the game, looking like a little schoolyard bully who just had his a$$ kicked was fantastic. He was complaining because Phaneuf slashed someone in front of the goal. That he did. I always hated that Phaneuf got away with so much slashing in front of the net; I'm very happy that he's now doing it for us. We've long been missing a mean streak in front. Even Methot is nothing like that. Anyhow, Staal missed the fact that the guy Phaneus slashed initiated the slashing when he took Phaneuf down with a slash across the back of the knees. What is it the say about payback?

Anyhow, we beat a Kane-less Sabres team and Hurricanes without Faulk and with Lack playing horribly. And Andy being the #1 start both nights. I *want to* believe but it just isn't easy.

Breaking it down to 10-game segments (Ryan has played 49 games so the latest 10-game segment is incomplete) he's netted the following points:
8
11
9
8
7
3

So unless he gets 4+ points tomorrow I's say it's fair to say he's in a bit of a slump.  But don't forget he also got a shootout goal to win a game during this stretch.

Was at the game last night. Ryan was fine. He played with Dzingel and set him up for a couple of glorious opportunities.

I was thinking that too. Loved seeing that. He just attacks anyone who is in front of the net. It's beautiful.

Well, to play devil's advocate, there might not be only so many points to go around but there are only so many minutes to be played so it's possible that when a player gets hot, he gets more minute which means less opportunities for other players ...

It's all in the minutes and linemates. Our PP has been brutal so getting PP time is not like it is on other teams. Also, as mentioned, he's playing with Dzingle. Kid's got hustle, alright, but he's still a rookie on his first call-up from the AHL.

All that said, yes, Ryan is in a bit of a slump, but I wouldn't call it a swoon quite yet. Don't forget he's also played through a broken finger for a month or two.
