If there's genuine interest in Greening, as is being reported, it might not be that hard to move him if you retain a few bucks.
Without really making much of an effort, it's pretty easy to see a move like Sharp for Michalek and maybe Gryba. Chicago fills two holes and saves a few bucks as well. How many other teams in the league can make a deal like that?
Uh, Diddle yeah! I wish Chicago would do this.
They were rumored last year to have interest in Smith. Even Smith, Gryba + 4th rd pick for Sharp is a win for both teams
Yes please? You're saying I could turn Smith, Gryba and a 4th into Patrick Sharp? I'd say, yes please and I'd drive those two plugs to the airport.
Well you have to look at their cap and needs. Chicagoe needs a d-man (not a top four), they need some depth, and they need cap relief.
Sharp is a piece that the Hawks can live without. He's got two more years until he's a UFA and he's got a cap hit of $5.9M per season (salary of $5.5M and $5.0M respectively).
Gryba has one year left at $1.25M ($1.3M salary) and Smith has two years at approximately $1.9M ($2M and $2.35M) respectively.
Chicago cap hit out: $2.75M (year one) and they get two players and a pick and salary of $5.65M (total)
Ottawa cap hit in: $2.75M (year one) and a salary of $10.5M (total)
I'd tell teams to kiss my arse and send over a 1st if they want Sharp. And I'd stand by that, but maybe Bowman has other ideas. I'd be so pleased if this happened...
Ya and when you can't sign Kruger and Saad and you only have three defenceman and eight forwards signed with $64M committed against the cap you'd be kissing your own arse when you can't sign your key players because you're holding out for a pick.
