He must be nursing an injury...the man has forgotten how to shoot a puck.

Well he had a broken finger, and he continued playing.  Can a bone heal if he's constantly using his hands like that?  When they have to freeze it to allow him to play through it, certainly he loses something and won't be as effective/accurate.  How long ago was the Montreal game where Petry blind-sided him with a late hit and he went back-first into the boards?

If his bone wasn't going to heal, he wouldn't be playing.

you can play through it during the season then get the surgery after the season. All I know is if we make the playoffs, Ryan might be very clutch for us

No professional athlete is getting surgery on a broken bone weeks after it happened.  You either get it right away, or it doesn't require surgery.

We have been in the playoffs for a while now (every game is critical).  He's been pointless in 11 of the past 13 games, and only has 1 goal in that stretch.  This is the opposite of clutch.

He is clearly playing through injury. You and all of us have zero clue about what he has, so it's not right to judge. Last night he was very good when it mattered most in OT.

If Ryan and Zbad and Hoffman can catch fire again....look out, because one thing's for sure, Turris, Mac and Stone are amazing and Pageau, Condra and Lazar have always been amazing.

Also, go Hammond...Diddle, we could have lost in the final 2 minutes if he hadn't been on the ball, although I thought we deserved to win that game 5-1 personally.

He had a couple of OT chances, yeah, including the 2 on 1 when he made a horrible decision to try to pass Karlsson the puck. And his shootout attempt was beyond awful. So yeah, it does look like he's dealing with an injury, but then maybe he should be the guy demoted to the 4th line and not Hoffman. Bobby is not really helping the team win at this point (1 goal in the last 13 games).

Ryan is one of the streakiest players we have as well - along with Turris, MacArthur and Zbad (lol), but he still commands top pairing respect from other teams - and if they panic and turn their top pairing on Turris, Ryan and Zbad will hurt them eventually.

That's what's so great, IMO, about the Pageau line adding some insulation offensively to the top 2 lines, opponents don't know when and where to matchup.

That all said, it really looks like Ryan is trying not to shoot off the rush, which is a cause for concern. Another cause for concern is putting Smith with those two and demoting Hoffman. You need to continuously work with Hoffman and keep telling him to use his speed and shot because that speed of his kills teams.

Lazar has never been amazing. Let's be realistic here.

I was just thinking that Stone, Pageau, and (obviously) EK are my favourite Sens at this moment. They will the team to win.
Stone is just lights out. I can't believe how late he fell in the draft. I think all those knocks on his skating early on probably helped his development.
JGP brings so much energy that he somehow woke Condra up.
EK is a beast.

Good time to be a Sens fan.

Ddrafting injured players is a 50/50.
Sometimes you get Mark Stone, sometimes you get Jarrod Maidens.

Sometimes you get Marian Hossa, sometimes you get Jared Cowen.

Are the odds even that good when drafting any player in any round even if they're healthy? I never thought so.

Having said that, the run we've had was great and all but it would be nice to lose a few and help our precious draft position.

Talking specifically about players that fall from a higher position -- it's 50/50 (made up statistic) that they will return to the previous level (which could be 20/80 that they make the NHL or whatever).

Anyone else have that sneaking suspicion that Lazar has been holding them back from better offensive numbers? How many open nets did he miss last night?

Any updates on Michalek? 'Cause that's the reason we have Smith (or Greening) in the lineup.

I like him a lot. Obviously I like what he brings to the table a lot more than you do. He's an important forechecker on the team, he, Condra and Pageau are always hustling and he's slowly starting to find his feet at the NHL level without a lick of pro experience.

I'm a big fan, and I think the organization has every reason to be excited about him and Pageau.

I think this year is helping Lazar in showing him what it takes to be an NHL player. it's a long lesson but a better one then staying in junior i would think. Now i think the correct move would be seding him to the AHL next year to start the season and gain that confidence that he can be a goal scorer again. I don't really see the advantage for him at trying to crack that in the NHL to start while guys like Pumpel might be nearer. how long he stays down there really only depends on him and how lights out he can be.

You can like him but Lazar being amazing would be like a Gaudreau type production so no, he is not amazing.

Precisely. Lazar is basically like Chris Neil without the fighting right now. Will he be the saviour everyone is wishing for down the road? Perhaps.

Ha, there's a lot of things that go into a prospect. For example, Gaudreau was in Boston College at Lazar's age, not the NHL. Does that make a big difference? Who knows. Gaudreau is being played in top 6 minutes - or top line minutes - by Hartley, which makes a huge statistical difference as well, while Lazar has been all over the bottom six.

I'm not arguing that Lazar has the offensive potential Gaudreau has, but I think it's fairly safe to say and see that Lazar will be an impact player going forward - perhaps not a 30 goal guy, but a very, very strong 20 goal guy who can be an important part of a Cup team, and an important part of the Senators - and that's really all I care about.
