Funniest tweet of the night -- The Sens are appealing the Cowen suspension. They want to change the suspension to 28 games.

Ouch but true.

7 pts below Boston, 2 games in hand, 2 games against them.

That's the season right there folks. 8 pts.

No doubt, if we win out we're in. But that's not going to happen. Realistically, we should be able to catch Philly (3 back, 3 in hand). That win against Florida when they were just 1 behind Boston could have been a stake through their hearts. They really, REALLY wanted that one. It was a huge game for them. But they are still 5 up on us. 2 games in hand gets us close but would need some help. Their schedule is a lot lighter in the next few (Chicago -- they got a single out of them 2 days ago and now face them at home without Kane -- perhaps payback, though; then Buffalo, Tampa, Toronto, Dallas). We're still in Death Valley.

I didn't see one second of the game, and then woke up to find out we won 3-0. Amazing. And to hold them to 25 shots...wow. Good guy BoroCop (and Gryba) +3 on the night with a nice tussle to boot. And all this despite the fact we got absolutely bamboozled on faceoffs (except for Legwand, he went 7-4). Turris and ZBad were a combined 9-26 on draws.

On to LA!

I saw the first few minutes while cleaning up in the kitchen, then I had to go upstairs for a while so I paused it. After that first shift I figured it would be a long night. By the time I caught up to live later they had settled into a nice rhythm. Then the first ended and they were up 1-0 and only one shot on goal behind (and if not for a fantastic glove save they could have been up 2-0). Thought the Ducks would come out guns blazing in the second but didn't they have a carried over penalty? The penalties took the wind out of their sails, for sure.

I like the way Hammon handles the puck. He's covering a hell of a lot more ice back there than Anderson or Lehner. Ever since the trapezoid came in some goalies just stay in their crease most of the time; Hammond goes out quite a bit.

I wonder if Hammy's excellent puck-handling skills helped keep the shots against low?

Credit where it's due, Wiercioch played very well. Slow, but he had a good game overall.

Watching that game last night... I think the Sens are a better team with Wiercioch in and Cowen out. Cowen just can't move the puck well enough and IMO that's the guy they should be looking to move but as I have stated before they have invested a lot in him and he won't be traded.

I think they will personally. Where there's this much smoke, there's usually a fire.

Also makes bad decisions with the puck but the coaching staff has basically taken that out of his game for the most part by saying "the glass is your friend". That's the only way Cowen can protect himself from turn overs for the most part or move it to Ceci.

This suspension was the best thing to happen to the Sens in terms of getting a real good look at their best possible blueline right now for 3 games straight (at least).

At least he's not taking hooking and holding penalties due to laziness like he was early this season. That alone dramatically improved his game.

Still, Being branded a "repeat offender" will take most of the physicality out of his game (probably) and you're left with a big body that can, at best, keep it simple. Hopefully someone else sees something more and pays handsomely.

That's the other thing and is a great point, having 2 suspensions in 2 years is going to effect what actually makes Cowen valuable and that's his physicality when he wants to lay the body. He doesn't play that way and he won't play, he plays that way and there's a chance he gets a suspension on any given night. Tough place for him.

He is moving his feet a little more for sure but still has no idea what to do with the puck and doesn't read the play as well as he should.

The Sens have enough guys like Cowen right now that they really don't need Cowen. If they hadn't signed Methot I would be singing a different tune.
