A lot has happened since I last posted on this topic. I try not to post too often because this is a hockey forum and a place to escape.

Given the fact that I've put it out there that my wife's been in hospital I figured I better not leave you all hanging like that.

I'll start with the results of the latest CT scan. It showed no new growth but, her blood work indicated that the cancer was growing so she was referred to Montreal to join the trial she's excited about getting into. Her appointment was scheduled for this past Wednesday however, she finally let me bring her to hospital Monday afternoon duee to pain vomiting and not being able to pass gas or have a bowel movement. She spent three days in observation in the emergency department as she waited for a room to open up. On the second night she had a nasogastric tube put in her nose, down her throat and into her stomach to relieve the pressure on the bowels. The amazing part is she put the tube into her nose and down her throat before the nurse took over.  She's doing well now, the tube is out and she's on a liquid diet right now and a low dose steroid to keep the bowels from getting inflamed and closing up again. She looks like she may be discharged in a day or two and already has her appointment in Montreal rescheduled.

In other news: her oncologist has been uncooperative and down right awful to the point where my wife would feel hopeless after an appointment with her. The director of the gyny-onc program has taken her on as a patient and said this isn't the first time she heard this and is embarrassed by this. Natasha will provide her with details in writing so that the director can pursue this and affect a real change for the better.

This is one situation where your union can actually be of use to you, but make sure you examine your collective agreement first.

Hard enough to get leave without pay from some managers. I've recently sat in on some management meetings specifically with respect to leave and they're less than sympathetic. Quote from one meeting: "Too bad for you if you have cancer." I have more but that should suffice.

Are you sure that wasn't when you were interning for the Flyers?

Great news, my friend. Try to enjoy a somewhat normal evening back in your house.

It's when Bob Clarke was interning for Health Canada.

Just got devastating news. My wife's cancer, previously thought to be low grade or slow growing, is actually high grade, aggressive and fast growing. Just found out a few hours ago after a company tested her tumor and told her she not eligible for a clinical trial she had high hopes for.

Sad to hear. I hope there's some way you can just stay at home and be there for your wife.

Tough setback, but keep your chin up cap'n, your wife's a fighter from everything you have shared with us.

So sorry to hear that Clutch. All you can do at this point is keep going and stay positive. I'm really hoping for the best for your wife and your family.
