A lot has happened since I last posted on this topic. I try not to post too often because this is a hockey forum and a place to escape.

Given the fact that I've put it out there that my wife's been in hospital I figured I better not leave you all hanging like that.

I'll start with the results of the latest CT scan. It showed no new growth but, her blood work indicated that the cancer was growing so she was referred to Montreal to join the trial she's excited about getting into. Her appointment was scheduled for this past Wednesday however, she finally let me bring her to hospital Monday afternoon duee to pain vomiting and not being able to pass gas or have a bowel movement. She spent three days in observation in the emergency department as she waited for a room to open up. On the second night she had a nasogastric tube put in her nose, down her throat and into her stomach to relieve the pressure on the bowels. The amazing part is she put the tube into her nose and down her throat before the nurse took over.  She's doing well now, the tube is out and she's on a liquid diet right now and a low dose steroid to keep the bowels from getting inflamed and closing up again. She looks like she may be discharged in a day or two and already has her appointment in Montreal rescheduled.

In other news: her oncologist has been uncooperative and down right awful to the point where my wife would feel hopeless after an appointment with her. The director of the gyny-onc program has taken her on as a patient and said this isn't the first time she heard this and is embarrassed by this. Natasha will provide her with details in writing so that the director can pursue this and affect a real change for the better.

Dr. Weberpals is the doctor she had for three years and has now been taken on by Dr. Hopkins

Weberpals idea of being optimistic is telling my wife, shortly after diagnosis, "you're not going to die in a year or two. Look on the bright side. You'll probably live five years."  She told her this with an, at the time, 9 month old and a three year old at home.

And I agree we already have enough to deal with.

I work closely with the person who manages her research accounts and have heard similar things.

To give you an idea of what life has been like this past week. Here's what happened over the last couple days.

Arranged through phone calls and texts to have visitors keep my wife sane from 2:30pm till 11:00pm.

Got up, put the kids on the bus, drove to the hospital, stayed until 2:30pm, drove to the grocery store, did groceries, got the kids off the bus with help from a couple of friends, made dinner, brought the kids to swim lessons (with friends), brought them home, got them ready for bed, my friends read them bed time stories while I drove back to the hospital and visited until 11:30 when my wife fell asleep, got home at 12:30, asleep by 1am, up at 6:30am, back to the hospital then back home for a nap before bringing the kids to karate with my mother in-laws help so that I could do my cardio work out.

She has no bed side manner and it seems like patients are a nuisance to her. Dr. Alhalal (senior resident I think) is also condescending and arogent.

With all that you needed a *class* for cardio? Save your money, your heart's probably getting enough of a workout already. Keep strong my friend.

I have a membership and should really be going more often. I can't keep this ship afloat if I can't stay healthy.

Exercise is a great thing to do regularly in your situation. The benefits of it helping combat stress are immense.

I am very sorry to hear this bad news, and can only hope that things take a turn for the positive...you and your family certainly deserve it.

If you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to ask. I know it probably would strike you as strange to ask Internet strangers for help, but I think you live in western Ottawa as I do, and I am certainly willing to do what I can to lend a hand.

You're a better man than I. I would turn to poutine. You'll pull through.

Just semi-joking, Clutch.
