What St.Louis is willing to offer vs what Anaheim is willing to offer may be the difference IMO. (obvious comment).  St.Louis blew their load with Miller and Ott and it completely back fired so they are probably gun shy to do anything extreme.

If I were the Blues... wouldn't even consider trading Schwartz for Spezza.  Schwartz is all character and tons of talent.  IMO a better player than Spezza right now.

I wouldn't dream of trading Tarasenko or Schwartz - however, if I could sign Spezza before the deal is done, I'd do Oshie.

There comes a time when you have too many 2-way grinding forwards and you need a little razzle dazzle.

Would you guys take Lecavalier and Brayden Schenn?

Was never a huge fan of schenn, but it's another young player with good upside.

Hard to say if that's enough value.

He's at least a LH center and I think he would thrive in Ottawa if given more offensive role.

Why would we do that? The deal is basically Schenn for Spezza. We're solving their problems- signing a guy that got bought out to that kind of money is stupid and we'd be letting them off the hook. So we can do what with him? I'm sure some team will do the same thing with Richards this year but we've got enough issues of our own- don't need to go around solving the problems of other teams in the league. Much rather just keep Spezza.

Ya, I agree. I was originally hoping for Tarasenko straight up for Spezz but didn't realize just how high they are on this kid! While Ottawa played the Rundblad scenario out very well, you gotta give props to the Blues management/scouting cause they were one step ahead of us. Time will tell which deal looks better in the end (Tarasenko vs Turris).

Spezza is gonna walk as an FA next year if you don't trade him.

Same with Bobby Ryan. Tough sledding ahead for the good guys.

I think Bobby will re-sign next week.

Murray and Melnyk both know that the Sens organization is under pressure to show some commitment to long term growth, which includes resigning good young players like Bobby R. I think the last thing Murray wants is to get into this coming season without a future contract for Bobby. If he ends up leaving, it'll be disastrous. I hope he's resigned before training camp, but I am not confident it'll happen.

We're pretty powerless to do anything right now except "Predict Spezza's return."

Well. The predictions are in. Time to lock this down and confirm sometime tomorrow that I was right.

Kesler got two good rosters and a 1st. That ups Spezza's value, IMO.

Wow, Dallas mentioned in passing once -- we were so totally off on this one it's not even funny. To come out now and say this was a great deal because of those prospects we are getting is to completely deny what you were saying earlier.

Regardless of whether these prospects turn into NHLers or not, we got fleeced royally and anyone saying otherwise (you know who you are) is completely backtracking from their positions in this thread.

We didn't get a 1st. We didn't get a top prospect (we got a 7th and 9th from a team ranked 9th -- respectable, but hardly "top"). And the roster player we got has one season under his belt -- i.e. a completely unproven commodity.

I'm fine to move on, but don't pretend like this is great.

It is great that we got rid of Jason spezza and I wouldn't use some rankings to show what kind of value the prospect have.

Saying we got fleeced royally is totally wrong.

It's important not to make the assessment of whether or not we won this trade based on past and current point production. If Ottawa makes the playoffs next year, they win since the team as a whole improved. They freed up cap space allowing them to sign Legwand, they got another 2nd rd pick, three guys who can potentially make an impact at the NHL level, and now the chance to make your team about hardwork instead of all about Spezza.

I was actually very pro Spezza trade, though I have admittedly been very upset about where this team is heading. The reason I was pro Spezza trade was mainly because I couldn't stand the guy and was happy to see him go. IMO, this trade is a win if not for that reason only.
