I could live with the worst team in the NHL as long as the effort is there and there is something being built. Not year after year but for a season or two and I would fully support that.

Exactly what I was saying. Spezza, I can see, he scored last time. Turris, well, he *did* score. Michalek went backhand glove side -- first, it's backhand; you do that on the first shot not when the game's on the line and you need to score. Second, did you see the size of Lou's glove? *That* is what they should be looking at to get more goals, not allowing soccer on the ice.

Spezza is a no friggin brainer.  You put Spezza out there 100 out of 100 times.  Michalek, no idea what he was thinking there.

I'm not entirely sure why Michalek was put out there either, and why he tried to go glove side. Michalek is a woeful 14% in the shootout this year. I would've given Stone or Karlsson that 3rd shot.

I think the assistant coach(es) pick the shootout players.

Best players play ! Facepalm

Stone, Karlsson, Hoffman, Wiercioch, MacArthur, Hemsky... any of those guys.  I seriously cannot understand the logic behind that move last night.

I can't wait for this season to end because I am honestly interested to see who falls on their sword this year.

Probably the goalie coach.

Not saying it's the right move but it would be the "Senator" thing to do. Wink

By the way, I criticize the coach openly but the fact that he didn't get to pick his assistants really sticks in my craw. If anything, after this season, he should have the leverage to do so at the end of the year.

I think MacLean needs some help on the bench for sure, building a team the right way means putting people you trust beside you, not guys the owner wants.

that's if he's not punching his own ticket out. the entire coaching staff has been questionable at best.
everything that could go wrong went wrong this season. this group is weak, weak, weak...

I can't see how this won't be a done deal. Cameron and Reeds don't have contracts and they were awful this year. Bye. Bring in veteran coaches or veteran NHLers like other teams do as assistants.

I was excited to see Hoffman go for it. No idea what MacLean was thinking. He's had the worst year as a coach as we've seen since the final days of Clouston and the half season of Fartsburg.

I said it earlier but I believe MacLean lets the assistants pick the shooters. I recall him saying that Cameron just hands him a list.

Hard to say whether its PMac or the Assistant Coaches who lost their mind this year.

All of them, but I'll keep MacLean and fire the rest.

The one guy that needs to disappear is Mr. Jason Spezza. I love him and all, but it's time to go. They were talking about it on Sportsnet last night, and basically the verdict was that he can be a very good #2 centre/PP specialist. Plus, y'know, he's getting older, and back injuries don't go away forever. Get something for him while he's healthy.

If we can keep the Turris line together with a healthy Bobby R, and end up having another top line of Z-Bad, Stone, and Hoffman, so be it.

I wouldn't mind trying to piece together three scoring lines...a new centre (or Lazar), Hemsky, and whoever on wing, and the have the fourth line of Greening/Smith/Neil.

there's no telling that you can actually hand down the number 2 spot to zib and the number 3 to lazar. I expect the sens would receive a center in a trade back. I'm not sure who that is but it would be interesting to see who that is. NYR could send one our way. i'm not sure St-louis would like to part ways with one we'd want. it might come out of nowhere.
I would love to see spezza go to carolina and we get skinner back in that deal. i expect spezza would do better under less pressure in that market. now skinner isn't exactly what we'd need but he'd fit in the youth movement we're trying to build.

Well, Spezza was 2/9 (22%) before he scored in Tampa. He hasn't been "killing it" either.

As for going glove-side, that was just a brain cramp. He stoned them with his glove all game long. And going backhand after missing the net by 20 feet from 3 feet out in regulation? Like I said, backhand is so hard to predict that unless you are Kovalev you shouldn't use it when the game's on the line. Especially if you are a left-hand shot coming in against the biggest glove in the East.
