What does retail development have to do with the Sens?  Giving into Melnyk?  I can't stand Watson but I back that choice of not developing that land.
How are they supposed to help without "giving into Melnyk"? Give him 5% off property taxes for the next few years?

It's a wasteland around CTC, all we have in 20+ years of the team here is a few car dealerships there.
Why should the West End have priority over the South? Lots of empty land in the South too.

Now imagine with all the stuff, there was also a casino? That would be friggin' great.

Also south side sucks. Sorry neely but it sucks, and you shoudl just accept it.

But $12 per spot x 41 (plus concerts) is on-going income, whereas if he builds on it the city will get the on-going tax revenue while Melnyk will get a (relatively) small, one-time profit. And, of course, he'd have to build an underground or above ground multi-storied parking garage.

Because we are clearly superior in every way.

Meh, w/e, we are getting the "casino". Also lots of development going on so it's all good and I'll just watch my property value increase year after year above inflation. Light rail is going to be awesome too.

I certainly won't be going to any games in 20 years. I'll be watching the ultra-high-def 3-d image projected directly into my cortex while sleeping. And I'll be able to pick whatever outcome for the game, too, as I will be living in The Matrix.

Arena should be downtown like every major NHL city.

Doesn't he own other land outside of the parking that he can have developed and lease out commercial properties on and then have greater ongoing income?

In The Matrix I can be anyone I want.  In 20 years' time there will be a company that will let you alter your RSI.

I know this steak doesn't exist, but ...

Exactly.  What are the odds that players want to sign/re-sign here long term when they will "always" be a underdog ?
I guess we'll find out in 2 years or sooner.

I guess it was sooner.

So this thread is pretty good for finding the doomsday budget faction.  Already knew about zsandy, and it looks like Hoags and Tim were two others. SSF just plays both sides for fun and profit, as usual.

So I'm not sure who Rooney was fighting for four months.

SD, god love him, was filling up the pages after July 1 with "why isn't Ryan signed yet?", and that got a few worked up about it. SSF, as entertaining as I find him, was incapable of making a post for months without some snide remark.

Look, I didn't sit around and compile a list or anything. You weren't paying attention if you didn't notice how THE BUDGET!!! became the catch-all, explain-all thesis for everything that ever did or ever would happen to the Sens, for more than a few people, here and in the Twitter-verse.
