Perhaps the Penguins' biggest need was in goal, but I don't think there was a realistic way to get a significant upgrade.

Maybe Pittsburgh comes back in this series (stranger things have happened), and this discussion becomes something we bring back up and laugh about...but yeah, it seems for now that Shero Cussed something up.

The moves stink of ownership meddling. And we know a little about that, don't we.....

More like Crosby meddling, he is the one who pushed for Iginla and convinced him to waive for the Pens and not Boston.

Shero's moves are typical deadline moves. They won't lose because of them but they sure aren't winning because of them either. Iginla and Morrow are supposed to make a difference when guys like Crosby, Malkin, Dupuis, Kunitz etc. are held off the scoresheet.

Once again Pittsburgh defence and goaltending is letting them down. That looks bad on Bylsma and Shero respectively.

Like usual, your post reeks of bitterness.

also if Crosby was the one who wanted Iginla then let's settle down with this stuff about chemistry and friendships etc

As for Iggy, looks great on him and fact of the matter is he will never make that Pens team better then they were before he got there.

Are you suggesting 5 years down the road they still have Crosby and Malkin?

Everyone is surprised that Pitt is getting man handled the way they are... but the people who are surprised Boston is up 2-0 shouldn't be, only those who ignore history are.

I think the Sens softened them up a bit, both physically and mentally; mentally, they made them think they were better than they really were.

At the time, I wondered if the only benefit for Pittsburgh getting Iggy was that it kept Iggy away from Boston. Imagine if the Boston got Iggy and Pittsburgh got Jagr, though.

I doubt that would change a thing, really. Still, Shero found a way to mess up his team.

Here's something to make you sad:

Redden, Chara, Hossa, Kelly, Emery, Daugavins are 2 wins away from being in the Cup Finals.

I guess the Pens should have tried harder to get someone -- anyone -- from the Sens roster.

Meh. A lot of teams could say similar things. Of those, only Chara & Hossa sting a little. The Hossa trade wasn't bad at the time (with only hindsight being able to predict the full douchiness of Heatley), so Chara is the one that hurts...and at the time Redden was pretty freaking good, so picking him over Chara didn't seem as ridiculous as it does now.

Plus, the Big Z and Hossa are two extremely likeable individuals, so it actually is kind of nice to see them have success.

A legitimate question.

I challenge you to find anyone who thought -- at the time -- that keeping Chara was not a slam-dunk decision.

Also, I may be in the minority, but I never understood the love for Redden. To me he was always just OK, nothing special.

Hossa should have never been traded.

Man the damage Muckler did to the Ottawa franchise is enough to make you sick... it actually does make me physically ill.

Also, the issue I had/have wasn't the fact they let Chara go, it's they never even offered him a contract and basically said "find somewhere else to play". Muckler kept the coke crew around.
