I have Irish, Scottish and English roots, but I don't care about soccer/football.

Sweden vs France and England vs Ukraine today.

England needs a tie to get through. A loss and they go home. Sweden is done, so France is playing to win the Pool. It will come down to goal differential if both England and France win today.

I prefer the English side to get as far as possible before the inevitable collapse and heartbreak.

That's who I cheer for internationally too.

When does this god forsaken "football" tournament end?

I think hockey fans just have a hard time with soccer. The game moves, comparatively, at a snail's pace, getting from one zone to another looks like a Herculean effort, goals are so rare, and the flopping can be rampant at times.

If you have a rooting interest it goes fast. Think of hockey, let's say Ottawa is down by a goal for the whole game the minutes tick away faster and faster due to the urgency to tie it up. A tie game has the same effect if you're anxious for the win. That's how I see it anyway because I find that these matches just fly by.

I should have prefaced that statement with "I think many/some hockey fans..."

For me, the game moves so incredibly slow on the field. The pace of hockey has created a relish for a game at a very different speed, for me.
