Fans would be all over him.

I was repeating what Tambellini said. Could he be lying? Sure.

Also, don't forget that this is the same Edmonton that had a dynasty feat. the likes of Gretzky, Coffey, Messier and others.

On that second last point, here's a collection of your comments on this subject, verbatim, lately -- one before you mentioned Tambelli's Twitter comment (page 4 of this thread) and one after (page 6):

"Fact is, they will get those players eventually. Edmonton is slowly becoming a place for FA's to play - lots of $$$ and young stars."

"3) Edmonton has a few things that make them an attractive destination for FA's:
a) young talented players
b) cap space."

Those are your words, and that's you suggesting that EDM is or could be a popular / probable destination for FAs.

There's a lot of excitement because of those kids in The City of Champions and basically every player in the league wants to be a part of the magic.

yeah the more I read about Collberg the more I think he'd be a good fit here. I'm not sure about what D-man I think we should pick-up. I know we'd probably do good to stack up with a good D-man but it's always sexy to drafts forwards.

I'm not big on drafting Russians but i wish we had a late 1st or if we'd be lucky early second to draft Andrei Vasilevski. He amazed me in the WJC.

Sorry but that is so wrong. They clearly do want to play there. People sign there - therefore people DO want to play there.

who signs there? guys with no place else to go, or guys that are overpaid ridiculously.

Still - people sign there. So it is wrong to say nobody signs there. He never qualified his statement with anything - just "nobody".

So, out of curiosity, is Ales Hemsky a guy "with no place else to go" or "overpaid ridiculously"?

Because while I thought it was an overpayment, a lot of people said it was a great deal for a career 0.77PPG player. He probably could have gotten that, maybe more, on the market.

Yes Hemsky is overpaid and would not have gotten that much on the open market. Nobody pays that much for a guy to sit in the ER.

While I agree that it was a poor signing, he still could have signed elsewhere but he chose to stay in Edmonton. With Edmonton supposedly not being a contender for years, why would he choose to stay? If he has the power to leave, is he really going to stay in Edmonton for a few million dollars more over a chance to win?

So the argument goes from "nobody wants to play in Edmonton" to now becoming "nobody wants to play in Edmonton unless they are overpaid".

To claim "nobody wants to play in Edmonton" is making a huge and false generalization.

Also, you have to realize some teams have to overpay to simply reach the cap floor. Some teams have to offer 35+ year olds longer terms to sign with them (Ottawa). It's not like top free agents are lining up to sign with them either.

and he is black. And MAlcolm X was a black rights activist. And X is the roman numeral for 10, and Subban is now in the top 10 on Craig Button's list.

Thanks for clearing that up. I knew it'd be you or Prags.
