Big Ev wrote:Ok it's seriously dumb to call up Filatov to play 6 minutes a night. Just call up a plugger for the 4th line, somebody like O'Brien. It would benefit the team more than putting Filatov on the 4th line for about 10 shifts a game. Why use somebody in a role he isn't comfortable with? Send him down ASAP. The team would be better off with guys in their proper roles. Filatov is not ready for NHL action.

Pretty much agree with all of that. There are a few guys down there that should get a look. Even a guy like Grant who has some size and skill would be a much better fit and probably help the team out a little more. That said, Filatov wasn't really the reason they lost. Personally, I think they should have plugged him in there for Butler. He was brutal and has been since day 1 of camp.

That was a very hard game to watch. Damn...games like that are both really frustrating and really depressing, hate that feeling of it being 2-2 and knowing we're about to be scored on again at any second.

Game could have been 15-2, but Anderson still needs to be a lot better if that makes any sense. Da Costa, Foligno and Butler appeared to be about the only players who wanted to play. Spezza can't get up for those physical games thus far.

And honestly, why the Diddle is Filatov in Ottawa and not Bingo.

Blah... Darn

I actually liked some of Butler's game tonight. Looks like he's getting there. I'd throw him out there with Foligno and Da Costa some more. It's still only his third game of the year.

Filatov definitely wasn't a reason they lost. You're not going to be a factor with 6 minutes of ice time. I'm just so puzzled as to why they call him up for that role, unless Kurt Kleinendorst said get him the Diddle out of my town ASAP.

Mark Parrish would be a better fit for a bottom 6 role right now, but it's unlikely they call him up. He provides a bit of leadership which is needed iof Alfie is out.

They missed K-Dog a ton tonight. He provides a lot on the 3rd/4th line

I'm a little nervous because there seems to be a disconnect between Murray and Mac on this one. MacLean seems to dislike Filatov and Murray seems pretty content to shove him down his throat. Hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't look like Filatov is Mac's kind of player.

Agree on Butler, he was good, he took the chance and looked pretty determined IMO.

Foligno was the best Sen yet only gets 12 minutes of ice time.

Spezza struggles against teams that have structure. Always has, always will. They focused in on his line and his line only tonight, tough to put that game on him or anyone else he was playing beside.

Well....the positives are few and far between, but Neil was right up in Thomas' face for Cowen's goal again and the effort was there as a group, but the execution was way, way off. We must have had 30 giveaways. Practice, practice, practice I guess.

And they really did focus on Spezza's line, so we need to continue to build the other lines - Da Costa's looked pretty good tonight.

Really sounds like the Sens will try to get Turris too. Pretty much everyone is buzzing about it - including McKenzie now (apparently, I haven't heard him say it specifically).

Not sure he's the answer, but again, depends on the price.

Price will probably be steep (steep for what Turris is .. an unproven prospect).

I'm not sure if he's worth it, Regin is back in 6 weeks. Giving up a few assets for what might be a bust doesn't sound like a good idea.

Do it now. Turris has serious potential. He can play, he's shown it.

He has already proven he isn't a bust. Just needs time and ice time.

I agree, but it depends on what those assets are. We're stockpiling young players - which is obviously good, but if the Sens' management like Turris as much as they appear to, do we make this deal and strengthen our current on ice product at the expense of some of the youth we have (keeping in mind that Turris is young as well)?

At what point does Murray do what we all think he'll do and sacrifice someone - or a package of players - to improve our forward ranks? Is this the time?

As long as it's not the 1st rounder - and none of Silfverberg, Z-Bad, Lehner - and none of last year's first 4 round picks, then you have to think Murray's thinking about it.

McKenzie, Dreger, and LeBrun say the Sens have exceptional interest in him. Calgary too (calling every day about him).

Murray can be very persuasive.

What kind of deal would he be presenting...

What does Phoenix need? They need Cs - which is hilarious. What else, I haven't followed them at all this year. Everything but D?

Also let's try to pry Ovie out of Washington. NOT! They kepot him off the ice in the dying seconds when they were down by a goal.

Our 2nd rounder plus Wiercioch, or do they even care. Foligno +? Risky business either way IMO, but Murray and Mac would know, especially Mac having seen him in Detroit.

Two teams among the weakest in the centre position makes sense.

So did we get outplayed tonight ? Were we that bad ? Were the B's that good ?

This team seems to fold like a cheap lawn chair against a heavy forecheck.

I don't think they need D, they have Yandle + OEL and others.

Probably a centre for sure and/or forwards.

I'm sure Murray has kicked tires but Maloney doesn't want to deal him.

Don't forget Turris has already missed a month + training camp, they'd probably send him on a conditioning stint

He hasn't proven a lot, Regin is probably more on an NHL player than he is.

I'm weary of Turris, saying he's the answer at centre is no different than thinking Filatov is the top-6 forward we need.

he's not the answer for the present. Doesn't mean he's not worth trading for though. Perfect player to trade for in a rebuild.
