I'm not sold on Backstrom quite yet. He plays for a team that has always been very defensively solid, which is a huge boost for him, and more importantly, in his short career so far he is demonstrating that he may have "Havlatitis".

Plus if Elliot really is the goalie of the future why the need to bring Backstrom in? Especially at that price. Much too high for a short term acquisition in my opinion.

To Wild
G Martin Gerber
C Alexander Nikulin
San Jose's 1st
Right for Min to swap 1st round pick in 2010

To Sens
G Niklas Backstrom

I am starting to see a common theme here.

Honestly guys... anyone taking Gerber is doing you a BIG cap favor. You actually have to "up" other parts of your deal to make that interesting.

Nikulin is not interesting to many teams. Ottawa isn't all that high on him, nor is anyone else.

San Jose's 1st is likely to be near the start of the second round.

That mix won't fetch you a solid NHL goalie I don't think. Stranger things have happened I suppose.

Yeah, I think you are right.. Any deal we make, we will probably be on the losing end of it, simply because nobody wants Gerber, and they would be doing us a huge favor by taking him, so they would want a pretty decent package, that would probably be bad for us...

The only way to get rid of Gerber (if that is indeed what people think) is to waive him and put him in the minors and I don't see that happening. Even if he has a good run of games, he is an expensive UFA who comes with the bad goal in big game stigma. Not the most attractive asset out there. We would have to give something like Gerber and a 1st round pick for a 3rd round pick.

I'm getting the feeling unless Murray has one of his trademarked "aces up his sleeve," we are going to be stuck with Gerber until July.

Gerber's fine anyway. The team that's Diddle very badly is Colorado. They've waited and waited and waited to find out what everyone knew all along: they have no goaltending.

Good luck with that.

PS Neither does Calgary. Wow.

Yeah what is going on with Kiprusoff, he's really not doing well at all...

Someone took him first overall in my hockey pool. I drafted second.

Yeah Kiprusoff went first round in my pool too... I think he was about 8 or 9 overall, but still.... We were only 13 of us in the pool... I ended up with Nabokov with my second pick...

I wouldn't worry too much about Kipper, he tends to turn it on when he's ready to.
I think he did the same thing last year, for a pool he's fine but in the meantime he could cost them positioning come playoff time. Every point counts nowadays.

and as for Gerber, he's gone at the deadline this year and we're gonna pick up either Bulin or someone else that can at least spell "rebound kuntrol".

I don't understand, what kind of a tool would take Kipper before Nabokov?

Except for last year when he sucked from A-Z pretty much. What the heck is wrong with him - and can he recover? Those are the big (huge) questions for Calgary.

Yeah I know... that's why I was glad when I picked Nabokov, all the top goalies were gone by the end of round 3... I ended up with not too bad of a team... I ended up picking up Simon Gagne and Martin Havlat really late, if they can stay healthy I think i have a real good shot...
