We'll see but Regin is in a lot of trouble going into camp next season.

Of course, we've all talked about it a lot, he needs to come in with legs like two f-ing tree trunks and the desire to lay it out on the line. Too much competition to go 'offensively cold' for more than a handful of games at a time next year.

Safe to assume Spezza will be named to the World Championship team this year? He's been on quite a run since he came back and would make a great number 1-2 center. I'm assuming Eric Staal will be the other center.

Yep, I think that's safe to assume. Spezza's been THE MAN lately.

Possible Team Canada players:

Spezza, Skinner, E. Staal, Tavares, Moulson, Parise, Benn, B. Richards, Morrow, Ribeiro, E. Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabrook (if they miss the playoffs), Booth, Eberle, PM Bouchard, Nash, McDonald, Pietrangelo, C. Stewart, Vermette, Duchene, Iginla, Rene Bourque, Phaneuf, Zajac.

Booth, Parise = American.

Otherwise, that's a pretty solid list if you ask me (minus the chicago players). My guess is the standings will stay as they are (i.e. Dallas/Calgary/Carolina missing the playoffs). A top nine of Spezza, Staal, Tavares, Nash, Richards, Iginla, Morrow, Moulson, Duschene......sick lineup

LOL Facepalm I knew that too. Parise's dad is Canadian I think.

Ryan shannon also confirmed this week on the radio that he was asked to be on team USA and he has already agreed. So add that name to the list Smile

I was firmly in the "don't re-sign Shannon in the off-season" camp earlier in the season. I'm just taking this opportunity to say that I really hope he gets signed again. He's such an asset. He can play in any situation, on any line, provides some offense, has wheels like nobody's business, etc. I used to think that he was easily replaceable, but at his salary and considering what he brings to the table, this guy is like found money (to borrow one of everyone's favourite sportscaster's lines).

My concern with Shannon is that he's had a run like this with the Sens before. After Clouston came aboard at the end of the 08-09 season, Shannon was thrusted into a top 6 roll and succeeded. Then for about a year and a half he toiled in obscurity and wasn't much of a factor at all. All of a sudden we find ourselves in a similar position as we were in during the 08-09 season, where Shannon is yet again getting top 6 minutes and flourishing. The thing is, looking at the roster for next year, it's almost a guarantee that Shannon won't be getting his top minutes again, and I'm afraid he'll just revert back to being the "invisible" Shannon who needs big minutes to make an impact.

It will be quite a different team next season. I can't see him getting 4th line minutes behind those rookies. He won't score every game.. let's get real not too many players do. I would sign him -- it won't cost as much.

Personally I think Regin got a little 'cocky' after last season... considering his finish in the playoffs and his world championship play. I don't believe he worked as hard as he should have. Being out 6 mos with that shoulder will set him back again in his physical conditioning.. but I expect him to work harder when he does get back.... unless he is packaged out with a pick to move up.

Remember who is in charge of the team -- Nonis. So don't assume anything.. it could be all Leafs -- at least the Cdn ones.

I could definitely see Reimer, Phaneuf, MacArthur, and Luke Schenn being considered for the team. Luke Schenn and Phaneuf should be there, IMO.

Cam Ward better be the guy between the pipes, bar none.

I could see Ward declining due to some injury. He always seems to have a hidden injury.

Foligno declined an invite from Team USA. Interesting. What's going on there?

They interviewed Foligno about it at the game and he framed it as needing to make a statement and a commitment to the Sens and concentrating on doing whatever it takes to improve for next season. Perhaps he's going to a training staff boot camp of sorts?

What's more puzzling to me is that Spezza was interviewed as well and has not yet been invited for team Canada. I realize his start wasn't great but he has said, several times publicly, that he wants to go and try to win gold. He's also playing out of his mind right now. Seems odd to me at least.

Ah, he says he'd like an early start to training and he also has that "getting married" thing coming up.

Perhaps he sees what happened with Regin and wants to really solidify his spot in the top 9? Plus he sees Condra, Greening, Butler, and now Da Costa looking for spots on next year's starting roster.
