Nope, meat is too good to give up completely. I am now, however, no longer going to eat veal or lamb.

If God didn't intend for man to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

Bu you eat cheese? You know how they make cheese, right? Ever hear of rennet? If not for the cheese industry we might not have veal.

Ketchup is the perfect topping for one of my favourite meats. Ground beef formed into a patty and bbq'd to perfection. mmmmmm.

Didn't know that but I have no idea what rennet is or used in, even after reading that article.

I just don't like the fact that baby cows are suspended from birth to maintain their tenderness, nor do I approve of the killing of any baby.

I don't understand this. Not trying to be a Richard but what is the difference whether you kill the thing as a kid or as an adult? Their purpose on this Earth is for us to eat them. They are going to be slaughtered one day so some might like it if you kill them early on in life as to not let them get filled with visions of freedom and wealth down the road.

BUT I don't like eating veal as it doesn't taste great anyway. It looks like a tire to me.

LOL first of all, their purpose is not for us to eat them, that is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. It's just a matter of evolution and survival of the strongest and the food chain/pyramid.

Anyone or thing is capable of killing another and would do it if given the chance. A lion will eat us just as we will eat a lamb.

In response to you, if I'm going to eat an animal I'd much rather eat one that has lived a long enough life. On to the issue of factory farming vs. free range, that's different. I'm not fortunate enough to be able to be so selective as to where my meat comes from.

Do whatever you want to do by all means, I'm not judging anyone for eating baby cows or baby sheep, I just don't want to.

There are other things like chickens being kept in tightly confined cages and having their beaks removed so they don't kill each other, and herds of cows and pigs being transported and kept in tight confines as well.

But I love to eat steak and burgers, and bacon, and pork chops, and all that other goodness. Just not babies.

And wait, animals have visions of freedoms? lol. that's an interesting concept. I think they certainly have feelings and preferences (as in they want to be fed, and warm, and all that) but I don't think that they have a conception of a what a human does as to what defines the good life.

Sorry if my humour hasn't caught on but I wasn't 100% serious with my post. They don't have visions of freedom and last time i checked they don't earn income...or do they? Perhaps their income is grain and grass and other food, and their dreams are of one day running free in a glorious field of grass and hay and having any/all the bulls they want to have sexual relations with.

BUT they are on this Earth to a) eat, b) provide milk, c) pull carts and Dung. That's about it. a) is the most important one.

Next, how can we know if bacon, pork, etc. is all produced from adult animals? Perhaps we are eating succulent baby pigs when chowing down out baconators and double downs?

Finally, I never had lamb as I always just think of the Simpsons episode where Lisa becomes a vegetarian

Love lamb... one of my favourite lamb dishes is Lamb Sosaties... this is a South African dish. It's like curry lamb chops on skewers... delicious. Hella good and tasty.

I used to love lamb - I just never put two and two together that it was a baby lamb and not just lamb in the general sense (mutton).

Rennet is harvested from the lining of the stomach of unweaned calves. There are other sources of rennet (just like there are vegetarian sources of gelatin for kosher gummy bears) but more expensive. Veal is a tiny bit more tender, perhaps, but it's also really bland. I really don't think there would be a market for veal if it wasn't simply available (it really doesn't cost more than beef -- certainly not any more than a decent cut). And a farmer would make a lot more money by letting his cows eat the free grass a few months longer and waiting for them to get bigger. So why do they slaughter a young cow before it's fully grown and lose all extra meat? Because of the rennet, which is necessary in the production of cheese, and more than makes up for the losses in selling smaller amounts of the meat.
