Pretty much what Rooney said. You need to spend the money where it will help the team grow the quickest and with the best results, goaltending is the only way to go along with a coach.

Those are the two musts going into next year. A true number 1 and a coach that's ready to work with a young team.

3 mil vs 3.5 is literally pennies when talking about the long term growth of The Sens. If that's what it takes then that's what has to be done because if Anderson drags The Sens to a 7th or 8th place finish (which is just as possible as a 12th or 13th place finish) then it pays for itself.

3.5 is fine. I was referrnig to the 4+ million that I read from some people (maybe it was on anoter site?).

I still think we need to finish in the basement next year in order to truly rebuild, so I don't want Anderson helping us finish in 9th place or something.

If it's short term, ie 2 years, than ya, I would say 4 mil is fair as well. I think 3 years at 3.5 is the perfect contract, personally.

You can't set up your team to lose and then complain about how your prospects aren't developing properly, tho'. That's the NYI way, and it has hasn't been working very well for quite some time.

Creating a winning culture begins with showing everyone on the roster that we're serious about wanting to get better, and that losing is not acceptable. That's the environment that you want you're kids developing in, not the cluster Diddle mess situation in NYI (for instance).

Exactly, you set your team up to succeed, not suck and hope they just keep getting good draft picks, it doesn't work. Not everyone hits the lotto like Pitts did.

NYI, Florida, and Columbus are all great examples of teams that draft high and the majority of their prospects flop. Why? Because they lose from day one without a real leader on the team or any vets that help take off the pressure.

You put the pieces in place where youth can have some success and build off of that. Everything is learned or lost based on who you surround your young players with.

I'm with Rooney, I don't want to tank next year (as in sign a bad goalie and go for the bottom).

We're not going to develop prospects properly in a losing environment.

The Islanders are a perfect example.

Anderson is the best goalie (realistically available) to us. Next year's FA market for goalies is even worse than this year.

The time is now.

Finally let's not kid ourselves Melnyk will never approve building a losing team to tank for a few years, regardless how good Yakupov may be.

Injuries and the nature of our team will ensure we have a good pick next year regardless.

We may well suck, especially if we don't sign Anderson or if we sign him & he does a repeat of his 2010-11 year in COL. Who knows. All I know is that it would a colossal blunder to purposely set the team up to fail. You'd be doing a serious disservice to all those young prospects everyone's been so excited about for years.

Signing Anderson sends all the right signals to the kids & the fans, and tells everyone involved that we're serious about fixing things. And that's a place to start.

Unless Anderson flops badly, is a bad presence in the room or prices himself way above what he is worth I am confident they will resign him.

I think it will be slightly $$ more and/or longer term than most would want but that's the price we're going to have to pay I think.

Personally I am just sick of the bad goaltending in Ottawa, it'd be nice to have a goalie to cheer for again. If they resign him, he'll probably be one the players hanging outside SBP.

As others said above it sends the correct message to the players and fans that we're not going to be a basement dweller. Rebuild or not we're going to make this team a winner as soon as possible(no shortcuts though).

One thing is for sure about the new mask. The picture we saw was in no way affected by Big Ev and his BIG WIN nor his addiction to said WINNING. Dancing

I'm stepping up to eat a little piece of humble pie. While I already acknowledged that someone cared enough about the logo mishap to have it changed the article in the Sun today confirmed that it was the team that requested that it be changed.

I still maintain it's not a big deal but I am acknowledging that Big Ev was right in his statement that the team cared and really, that's all that mattered.

TwoThumbsUp! Big Ev...kudos to you...

Thanks. I'm not looking to be right, I just thought this is a big issue for the branding of the team. It's the business student in me!
