The process has not changed. The new user applies and a mod has to approve that application. The process will change, somewhat. If an existing member PMs the mods (by the way, we really should configure a "user group" for mods to simplify PMing them all en masse) and says "My buddy so-and-so wants to join; his e-mail address is xxx" then when a mod sees a person matching that description signing up, they can quickly process the application. If not, then it may take a bit longer.

I don't have all the answers (hey, deja vu) but I'm sure we will figure it out.

ok i get that but i know myself and others are randoms that found our way here through other uses of the internet no through members how would they get into the site? example i found this site through clutches shamelessness on HB where he often would post for good hockey talk come to gmhockey(or something) now he doesnt do that but spader (i believe) found it from google how do we get these good people weeded out from the jerks

so mods, what did happen? I think we the loyal members should be brought upto speed of any wrongdoings so we can be more alert of odd-goings on.

Right now, we have to treat this as seriously as possible.

We had an issue with a former member named Notch, several posters on here had bad experiences with him until we finally banned him. Then he reappeared under a different name, so we banned him once we caught wind it was him. And over and over and over, causing issues with posters and finally attacking our site, screwing up the PM feature for quite some time IIRC.

After dealing with him, we have a crew of watchdogs that look for his IP that we traced towards the end of his tenure here.

That IP address recently popped up again with CockRoche and Straight Shooter. We gather the odds of this being a coincidence are rather slim, so despite some of us really liking CR, we felt it had to be done for the good of the site.

The reason for sponsorship + real e-mails is to prevent it from happening again while we figure out what the best way to do things are. I assume it will end up being sponsored members for a long, long time unfortunately, but I hope I'm wrong. A friend of one of the posters here is sponsored by the poster, we admit him and so on and so on. Right now, I don't see a different way to go about it, and neither did any of the Admins.

We will work so we can attract more people, I'm not sure how yet, but I assume we'll end up being fine. I appreciate the posters who come here very much and maintain that this is THE place to chat about the Sens without prejudice. Hopefully the posters agree with that as we work to slowly figure out some of the security features that might need to be added along the way.

Well if all you go by is an IP that is just messed up. Regardless, CockRoche did nothign wrong on the board from what I saw, so if something else happened I think it is right to make it public. Because the way I see it, we are down a member who contributed quite a bit to the board and now is banned for what I think is an unjust reason.

I thought the same IP address can be used for more than 1 person/household or whatever.

So you guys are telling me you didn't know CR was Notch?
Pretty sure N4L and Rooney were saying that for weeks and I didn't post it here but N4L gave me the proofs by PM and said they also gave it to you guys (the admins) but you didn't really look into the matter.

Anyways, about attracting new people, there's quite a few I like on HF, not sure if you guys who have an account there would be able to get htem here. On top of my head, Minister of Offense, Xspyrit, Billy MAdison (ok, this guy I suspect is N4L, too many similar arguments, sentence constructions etc minus the grammar mistakes)

So, how does someone who doesn't know ANYONE on this site sign up?

You think I didn't agonize over this for a long, long time? I happened to like CockRoche, had no issues, didn't see the style in writing, until recently we couldn't come to an absolute agreement that it was the same IP. There was always a thought that it might be a coincidence, like the fact that SG11's IP is based out of Winnipeg - when I know she lives here, because we're married.
