New rules for new members

From here on, we will need new members to:

a) be sponsored by an existing member who's been active with GMHockey as a poster for at *least* 6 months. If we don't recognize the sponsor, we as Admins have the right to decline the new member based on that alone.

b)no hotmail accounts, real e-mail accounts only. Reduces any risks of members joining to spam etc.

So that's that then, something we've been talking about for a while now has come into effect - if for no other reason than to protect the site from any kind of malicious and/or predatory behavior.

Seems reasonable enough.

anyone can create a freemail account, but I think what SD is getting at is if you have a bell or rogers or even a work e-mail account, there is no likeliness that the person is a spammer or someone trying to get back on here to harass someone.

This isn't uncommon. Hotmail provides way too much anonymity. A real email address typically comes from your ISP/work etc and they are not unlimited. People would be less inclined to "waste" one just to use it to join a board.

I joined using a gmail account so I take it this isn't going to work retroactively?

I think I signed up using a hotmail account, switched to a work account and am now registered with a gmail account.

Do I lose any of my bounty-hunting space robots or possibly lose my membership altogether?
