Am I thrilled? No. Does it make some sense? Yes.

Agreed. Teams that rebuild get rid of veterans for picks and prospects. If you want to rebuild you have to move pieces of value. The team would probably have loved to keep Kelly but Kovalev/Ruutu/Kuba will yield next to nothing in a trade if they can even be moved and Phillips & Gonchar likely aren't going anywhere. Kelly has a good landing spot and will be a help to the Bruins.

ZING

Is he trying to pick a fight with Chara on day one?

He, like me, probably can't wait for the annual choke-job in May.

Kelly and Fisher have little value to a Sens team not making the playoffs but have some value to a playoff bound team.

They'll be 35ish by the time this team is a postseason threat.

Finally someone is getting the bigger picture.

There's a chance Kelly would of walked next year. Who knows? I think BM is opening spots on the roster for the guys we actualy have in the system. Sure it will hurt us now but I don't see teams lining up to take Kuba or Lee of our hands. Of course our most effective players are targeted. And I think we're getting market value.

I'd be more pissed if we'd stay the way we are.

I hope we move more bodies also. I won't be surprised if neil is gone either. He's been great for us but he might of had an NTC if he hadn't tested the FA market when he turned UFA instead of taking what BM had offered him.

The way I look at it Neil almost left the team.

Just saying a coin has two sides.

According to the SUN Chris Neil has a NMC. I posted it in Ottawa tidbits thread.

Capgeek lists nothing in terms of a NTC or NMC. He'd be one guy where I wouldn't mind if he exercised a NMC.

I really hope Phillips waives his, but I also understand if he doesn't. The man has young kids in school here in Ottawa.

Actually Michalek's is a NTC according to the SUN. I personally want to keep Michalek though so I don't mind that.

I quoted The Sun piece in Tidbits. NMC. Like I said there, I'm happy with Neil having one, cause I'd like to see him stay. He's always been a leader, just never had an A. I hope he stays. Michalek is finally showing what he can do. With Kelly and Fisher gone, I'd like to keep him around too. Always good to have someone that's a shorthanded threat.

I don't have a problem with either player, just don't like that BM throws NMCs and NTCs around like he's a Sutter.

BM isn't responsible for Michalek's NMC. That was a deal he signed in San Jose.

Good point. That said, it's even more odd that we didn't know about it, considering that he's waived it once before.

You dont think RNH will be on the roster of a rebuilding Senators team within three years???

No one will be expecting us to win for a while but they should be played to get the experience.

So RNH makes the team in year three when we're supposed to be contenders? Great plan. I'll take Landeskog thanks.

A Sens contending team with this as center depth?
- Spezza
- Regin
- OBrien
- Winchester?

Absolutely. Plus everything else that changes over the next 3 years. Also you forgot about Zack Smith. Thanks for playing. You'll get a nice parting gift.

Maybe it’s one of those weird-o NMCs that only kicks in after x number of years. For example, Kuba had a NTC, but it was only for 09/10.

I can't wait for the damage this line up is gonna make against Richards, Carter, Briere and Giroux Chris Kelly Traded to Boston for 2nd Round Draft Pick - Page 16 159628

It's a good thing for you that teams don't play with 4 players and they don't freeze their lineups in time and do nothing else. It's also good that players develop over time. Loony

Seriously dude. You've clearly written off Regin. Good call there. Whaaa? You've also assumed that a contending team would not go out and improve that lineup. Karlsson will be in his 5th season by then, Rundblad and Cowen each in their 3rd so more experienced than the current version of Karlsson. We'll likely have far better goaltending, better coaching and better system.

Also I'm pretty sure teams play with Left wingers and Right Wingers as well.

A LOT will change by year three so lets not assume that it'll be a simple 4 on 4 game with no one else on the ice except Spezza, Regin, Winchester and Zack Smith vs. Richards, Carter, Briere and Giroux.

Philly’s cap situation is pretty sketchy next year too. That’s kind of a pointless statement in this argument, but I thought I’d throw that out there.

Not really pointless since we're talking about 3 years from now. I don't think those 4 centers are all on Philly 3 years from now personally. That's just talking about the Centers because as we all know that's all that matters.

A lot can change in 3 years for sure, but we literally have nothing in the system that can be considered a top-six center (imo) in the pipeline and anyone we draft (minus RNH/Couturier) likely won't be that player or won't be ready to contribute on a big level in 3 years.

I know where you're coming from, but you're over-simplifying this methinks.
