It's also interesting to note that only one D-man was traded off of this D core. Can more be done in the off season? So far our D looks like this going into next season:

Gonchar, Kuba, Phillips, Karlsson, Carkner, Lee, with opportunities for Cowen and Rundblad to make the team.

I think Alexei Kovalev is a UFA at season's end. Sarcasm Facepalm

Indeed. Maybe he'll sign for cheap? Puking2

We'll see if he grabs a top 6 guy. If they get Landeskog in the draft, that's the guy that fits in right away.

Spezza, Butler, Michalek, Alfi, Foligno, Landeskog, maybe Regin in there too but his future is way up in the air.

Maybe through UFA they can go out and get another top 6 guy but I wouldn't give up anything of any value unless it was a legit top line winger coming back to play on the other side of Spezza.

I could definitely live with that. Condra could also likely sub into the top-6 and play more of a mid-6 role. Not a bad top-6 for a rebuilding team.

I think Condra has a shot at ending up in the top 6 for sure. Scoring might still be a little problem going forward as Alfi has really slowed down, Spezza, Michalek, and Foligno are all very inconsistant, and Butler and Landeskog are not exactly proven at The NHL level.

Going after a top 3 guy might not be a bad idea but it's not a gaurantee either for success either. A good system needs to be put in place along with a good PP to really gets The Sens off the mat, IMO.

Ok, so the day after, here's my thoughts:

Campoli clearly wasn't in the plans going forward for Ottawa. Not a bad player, just no longer needed. Price paid to acquire him was a 1st round pick, which is unfortunate because it wasn't a bad pick. Got the 2nd and a role player for him. Still leaves our blueline log-jammed next season - not sure where they fit in one of Cowen/Rundblad let alone both.

Phillips' signing is not bad. I just had my reservations because of his play and really there's no guaranteeing he ever improves his play. He might look better by comparison if the team as a whole improves, but I think it is time to face that age is not working for him. No, he's not old by most standards, but he's slowing down for sure. Do I hope he improves his play? Obviously, but does it scare me to think that we are seeing the real Phillips now and for the next 3 years?

If we are seeing the real Phillips now than that's a good thing. He's looked fantastic with Lee and vis versa.

Nope. If we paid a 1st round pick, then NYI traded us Comrie for McAmmond, which clearly didn't happen. There were 4 moving pieces in that trade, you can't isolate two of them and call it a transaction. (Sorry, pet peeve)

Lol, sorry.... I just meant that... nevermind, ok so I will clarify... we acquired Comrie and Campoli for McAmmond and a 1st.

Still.... if we didn't make that deal, we would have had an extra 1st Sarcasm

Also, The Sens got 2 good season's out of Campoli and a very nice playoff round. He was a stop gap and truth of the matter is the player picked with the 26th pick overall has about the same chance at turning out as the player picked 46th overall. It's obviously a little more favoured in the earlier pick but I think the percentages are pretty close to the same.

That's much better, thanks. I'll continue calling people on that. One of those things, y'know?

So, has Lelcaire been shutdown for the season?

I think so. Apart from the hip/groin injury, apparently he also poked his eye out:

Didn't know this part but really who cares I guess?

I give him a lot of credit for coming in here and learning earlier (on Saturday) that he’s been put on waivers, and then to go out there and play like that. I think that says a little something about Pascal.
