Seeing what other D-men are going for and that Chris has kind of killed his value with his bad play season I think they will resign him rather than trade him for peanuts.

I can see that too. Perhaps it hits 3 million per year, but I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope it's less.

Because of the fact he wouldn't waive his no trade clause and we lost out on getting assests. It better not be for more than 2m per

It doesn't sound like the Sens even approached with a trade and a request to waive his NTC.

Murray probably has/had some offers on the table and they can't be all that good otherwise he'd be gone by now.

Either the asking price is too high or (more likely) other teams do not value Chris Philips as we do and are trying to get him for a song.

I can see the new deal being between 2.5-3.0 cap hit.

Murray can be a cheap Diddle sometimes - which I like. 2.75?

am okay with that, 3 or 4 years?

Sens will try for 3, Phillips' will demand 4. Do they settle on a 3 X 3? I'm intrigued to see the numbers if this happens.

Chirp in the comments section of his blog claims he's hearing rumours it will be a 2 year deal.

The shorter the better. Within 2 years we could have Rundblad, Karlsson, and Cowen really contributing by then.

I will guess it will be 3 mil x 2 or 3 years. Phillips value is a lot closer to Sopel then it would be Kaberle at this point and it's probably not worth trading him at this point.

If they can move one of Kuba or Gonchar, then Murray will have gotten himself out of a very tight spot.

It's definitely going to be more than that. "A reduction, but not a significant reduction." You're expecting too much.

Not a chance. I'm pretty sure that "You wouldn't waive your contractual right to stay and honour your contract so we expect a discount" doesn't come up too often.

Agreed. Seems reasonable to me.

Prolly not gonna happen he wants to stay in Ottawa and Murray hands out NTCs like candy.

It's a good way to entice people to sign with Ottawa (Kovalev, The Gonch), and it's a sign of respect for veterans. Pretty standard operating procedure across the NHL.
