reason being Landeskog is 6' -210lbs and NHL ready, and would fit on the Left Wing with Spezza. He is also Sweedish and Alfie could mentor Landeskog, Omark, Karlsson, and Rundblad for the next tear or so until he retires.

Michalek Spezza Landeskog
Alfie Regin Omark
Foligno Kelly Neil
O'brien Winchester Smith
Butler

Gonchar Karlsson
UFA(Alberts) Rundblad
Campoli Cowen
Carkner

UFA (Schneider pleeeease)
Lehrner

I could watch that for a year, pick up another top 5 pick in 2012 draft, then get two more UFA's (Sharp, Stoll) and we are back in contention. No one messes with the young guys with Neil, Alberts, Carkner and Cowen in the lineup. Two year turn around.

Sometimes I read your trades and they are pretty crazy, this one though, I like. it makes sense and I like it.

Landeskog on the top line fresh out of junior hockey? That's iffy at best I think.

Interesting. I find myself not drawn to Couturier the way I was earlier in the year. Not sure why. I'd put him as my least favourite, but what do you like about Couturier that makes you say that?

I think Couturier is getting a really bad rap and no one can figure out why. Maybe it's because he's a "solid" prospect who doesn't bring the individual skills that RNH does, or the smarts that Larsson does or the leadership and grit that Landeskog brings. What is does is bring all of those things in a big package. I see a lot of Brad Richards/Jordan Staal in him which anyone should be thrilled with. I think some people question where on the scale he will end up on that scale though, and that could be the issue.

Keep reading. He also mentioned a top-five pick in 2012 in the original post.

Top-four being Larsson, RNH, Landeskog and Couturier? I'd say Landeskog is a good candidate to replace Alife. Right wing - check. Carries the team on his shoulders - check. Swedish - check. On the other hand, with Fisher gone we are going to be in desperate need of a center.

They're both great leaders, albeit in slightly different ways, but I don't think people would say this about Landeskog if he wasn't Swedish.

Also, that Kitchener team is stacked Akeson's got 86 points in 50 games, then you've got Ryan Murphy, Toby Reider, Matt Tipoff, Mike Catenacci, Jamie Doornbosch, Matia Marcantuonia (highly rated for 2012). Landeskog is the leader and brings a lot to the team but I wouldn't say he carries it.

Couturier has a higher skill level (IMO), plays a more important position and he's probably like 3" taller. On the other hand he's not as much of a physical or defensive beast, though he has a high defensive upside.

And nobody pointed out that I said Landeskog plays right wing Facepalm I had several hockeydb pages loaded, switching between the tabs, must have looked at the wrong one.

Pretty sure he can play both wings. Not sure if he can play centre, though (or if he'd be as effective offensively at centre).

I'm almost positive Landeskog has spent time on both wings so far in his career, so that's really a non-issue.

My main issue is that I'm not sure his offence will translate to the NHL level and that we could have a Brendan Morrow/Dustin Brown on our hands (both fantastic players who I would love, but not with a lottery pick).

Ditto. We could use some filthy skill + scoring.

Or Detroit.

Detroit has 6 very valuable Swedes, Vancouver has 5; but only 4 regulars.

It sounds like it is just Big Ev's personal preference anyway. I don't think he was saying drafting players from Sweden was a poor business model.

Although I want a forward - badly, Larsson would be crazy to add to our D fold. If we get 1st overall, we have so many options, it'll be amazing - including trading down of course.

I've always wondered why isn't Couturier more popular than the other 2. Pretty sure, once again that the WJC has something to do with it and nobody actually watches the guy play in his junoir league. He could be as good as Toews in a few years. Without the captaincy at 20.
Richards and Toews are great centers and they're not that skilled. Couturier is probably more skilled than these guys and he's 6'4.
EDIT: And he certainly carries his team more than Landeskog does on a stacked Kitchener team.
