Richards and Toews are great centers and they're not that skilled. Couturier is probably more skilled than these guys and he's 6'4.
EDIT: And he certainly carries his team more than Landeskog does on a stacked Kitchener team.

Nice write-up, I've voiced my confusion over his 'snubbing' out of the top 3.

It will be easy to grab an impact player, tough to pick the one that fits into the mold of Ottawa's future, as that will be unknown at the time of the draft.

Assuming we pick second, I'm hoping that Edmonton takes Larsson and one of RNH, Landeskog, or Couturier makes it an easy choice. It's always a crap shoot, but I for one hope we get a Kane, not a van Riemsdyk.

JVR is still just 21 and plays on a stacked team = not much ice time. It's more of a develpment thing than talent IMO.

Is that how you'd explain Turris, too?
High draft picks bust all the time. It IS a crap shoot. Thank god we have someone like BM guiding us through it, is all I can say.

No, Turris has been rushed when he was not physically mature yet. He was not smart and quick enough to play on the 3rd line. And he's not a bust yet. Did you say that Bobby Ryan was also a bust before the he made the league in 2009?

Don't forget about the power forward versus the skill player equation.
Maybe Spader just wants a player that can contribute 72 points in their rookie year? If that is the case, I'm sorry to say, that player isn't eligible to be drafted in 2011.

Of course there will be a discrepancy between a power forward and a skill player. My point is that I hope we get someone that can contribute right away (JVR took 2 years longer than Kane to break into the NHL) contribute, maybe not 72 points as a rookie, but at a better pace than the 35 points JVR got last year. I'm hoping for an impact player, not a supportive cast, secondary type of guy.
