If we don't draft an NHL ready, impact forward, I'd be very surprised. The Sens need something to draw the fans in and a guy like Landeskog, if he's available when we pick, has the potential to do that.

Interestingly enough, I was interviewed by a research company hired by the Sens organization. Management wanted some insight into the fan base, etc.

I believe there are reports that the "plan" is not exactly in place but is being formulated by outside consultants. Your post supports those reports.

Drafting aside, we need either a Top Line winger and a bonafide 2nd line centre...oh and a true 1# Goalie but come aaaaaan we'll never get one of THOSE!

How about someone from this list?

UFA wingers (offer one of them ~$2M 1yr)
Kariya, Paul
Gagne, Simon
Hejduk, Milan

RFA Centres - tougher to get as a trade would involve giving up assets. No way we do the "Offer Sheet" thing

Parise, Zach
Dubinsky, Brandon

Thoughts?

No love for Semin? What forwards should Ottawa pursue? - Page 2 105237

Aside from a young Semin, I would be interested in Simon Gagne I guess...

As for RFA's, where else to go but Parise? Poach that mofo!!

Brad Boyes.

Kuba+ for Boyes. Two players with disappointing recent performances, but decent numbers/records in previous seasons. Both around the same cap hit ($3.7 vs. $4 mil). St. Louis in need of another top 4 guy once Brewer is done this year, Ottawa in need of some offense.

Not sure what the "+" might be, tho'.

Cap'n Clutch wrote:da Costa sounds nice but we have Winchester and Butler already through the college route and neither has shown enough yet to be deemed reliable sniping wingers.

Butler has played 8 NHL games. We have no idea yet if he will or will not be a reliable scoring threat. Winchester is bottom 6 forward.. but time will tell what Butler becomes.

This last call-up I certainly liked what a saw.

College players are free agents and a good way to go to try to get maybe a very good player.

Even if Parise gets drunk and says Ottawa is his childhood team?

There's also that underperforming bum in Washington ... Laugh1

Did they ask you about your thoughts on a the big "0" Sens retro jersey?

Ha ha. Nope. We can chat about the things they asked or the things I told them. It is just a lot of information for me to type it all out here.

Brooks Laich and Zenon Konopka. Leadership and skill from Laich, face-off prowess, toughness, and fighting from Konopka.

Don't want Leino. There's a reason Detroit got rid of him.

That's like saying there's a reason Calgary got rid of Marc Savard and Marty St-Louis. Clearly the guy has taken strides since leaving that no one in Detroit expected.

Also, I can't see Laich being let go, but he is a guy I would love on this team. Konopka I'm not sure about since I think our bottom-six is fine.

Is it also like saying there's a reason that Montreal got rid of John Leclair?

I've watched enough of Ville Leino to not think that highly of him.

Yeah, I've always thought Brad Boyes would be an option, but his decline is amazing.

I would go for him if the price is Kuba + 5th or lower, but not otherwise.

Ditto Setoguchi.

I really hope they avoid the UFA market for the most part. The big boys aren't coming here. I have zero interest in reclamation projects like Simon Gagne, Paul Kariya either, these guys are done. Let's go young. Someone mentioned Jussi Jokinen, I think he'd be a great fit - not sure if Carolina will let him walk though, he's posted back to back great years statisctically speaking. Don't think it would cost more than 2.5 to the 3 million range.

Trade is, without a doubt, our best option. Let everyone else overpay for FA talent. Then, once they've all overpaid, let's "Atlanta" ourselves some quality players.
