despite being homers, these guys made some good points about leclaire's overcommitment that leads to horrible rebounds

oh and we've matched our shot totals from our last two games.....incredible

Fantastic first period.

They keep this up, the Pens don't have a chance.

Just looked at the boxscore. 21-14 in shots. As happy as I am about the number of shots for, the number that the Pens are getting is worrying. Though, it does look like (as Roche said) Pascal is getting more confident.

It is not overcommitment on Leclaire's part that gives out rebounds; what it is is a lack of confidence. He doesn't trust himself and his positioning and therefore he "kicks" at the puck with his leg when in the butterfly. His pad is already in the right spot, but he doesn't believe it is and he ends up making that kicking motion to ensure his pad can reach the puck.

When dealing with the rebounds off his torso; it is a lack of technical ability and positioning causing them. His upperbody is not tall enough and his shoulders are very rarily square to the shooter in time to absorb the shot.

That is my take at least. With more quality starts and continuous time, Leclaire can improve. He is already starting to improve the basics. The advanced skills will come if he gets the playing time.

I wish I shared your confidence. 1 goal on 21 shots is not a good ratio. Chances of them getting another 21 *the rest of the game* are not great. Bylsma won't let that happen. You've got to score 2-3 on 21 shots in a single period. Right now the Pens are just one lucky break away from tying it, so they don't even have to open it up yet. Crosby showed on just that one rush how he can create something out of nothing. We need Pascal to steal the second period for us.

Not that he's done anything particularly special so far, but Spezza's game has really evolved and smartened up, eh? He just doesn't give you those reasons to roll your eyes/scream at the TV anywhere near as often as he used to.

Kudos to him for finally becoming a responsible hockey player.

Game to game, remarkable improvements; on and off the ice.

Nope. We just need him to keep doing what he's been doing. He didn't steal the first period. They keep pressure like this on MAF, he'll crack. That's not to suggest that they'll finish with 63 shots in the game, but just keep doing what they're doing and they'll be fine.

Somebody has learned from his time upstairs, just like his time down in the AHL last season. Still too early to tell, but he looks good so far.

Other than laying on the ice right now of course; thanks to Matt Cooke.
