Did Yzerman have that kind of one-timer though?

It's always tough for me to compare players from different eras. When I look back at not-so-old footage, I see Gretzky scoring as he skates down the boards and crosses the blueline with a slapshot that the goalie just stands there and looks at. No butterfly, no nothing; the goalie just waves at the puck with his stick. It really wasn't until Patrick Roy started his NHL career in 1985 that the stand up style meshed to perfection with the more modern-style butterfly that shots like Gretzky's were getting stopped on a more regular basis by more that one goalie, Belfour and Joseph come to mind right off the bat.

To make this a bit shorter, what if all Crosby had to do to score was get past the blueline with a bit of space a fire a shot on net? But, then again, what if Crosby and Stamkos were allowed to be hooked and slashed the way Yzerman, Gretzky and Mario were?

That is why I have such a hard time with comparing generational players. It is a great discussion to have and I could go on for ever. Maybe I shortened this up to save some thoughts for later.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg are magicians. They tie it up with 3,2 seconds left.

I saw the replay of the Ovechkin/Semin/Kovalchuk stupidity and I have to say, that is not in the least befitting of a captain. After a loss, I am pissed off. I need time to get over it, what can I say, I'm a huge fan. But this is the captain of the team fooling around right where his coach is trying to deal with the media after a thunderous loss.

VERY poor, I expect that from Semin (come to our team!), but Ovechkin shouldn't ever do that again. I'm sure he got a chat from Boudreau.

STORY:

.......Capitals players were appropriately solemn in postgame comments, and coach Bruce Boudreau tried to match that tone during his media scrum. Which was difficult when Alex Ovechkin(notes), Alex Semin and Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk(notes) were yukking it up like it was the front row at a Yakov Smirnoff concert just steps away from Boudreau's press conference.

It was something that Boudreau didn't seem all that pleased about.

Not just a thunderous loss, it was the Caps second consecutive 5-0 road loss, and their 3rd road loss in a row.

I can't say it surprises me from him. Ovechkin is a me-first hot dog.

I predict that Boudreau gets gassed.

Yeah not good display by Ovechkin. Especially to be so boisterous in front of your coach while he's discussing how bad of a loss this was (2 straight 5-0 losses), that's just wrong. Discretely chatting would have been much better.

Garry Galley said it best yesterday about the incident: It comes off as Ovechkin being in charge of the team, and not Boudreau who has to be rudely distracted along with the media by his captain's laughter.

Down the road you mean? It certainly won't ever be OV that gets traded or benched, so the odds are in your favour eventually. Ahhhhh!

It comes off that way, because it is that way. If Boudreau went to war with AO, I think we all know who'd lose that battle. Ted Leonsis already lives his entire life with AO's flaccid penis in his mouth. AO can do no wrong as long as he brings people to the rink.

Before I even heard this story, all I saw is the score and I immediately thought Boudreau's days were numbered. I still don't think he lasts the season.

Don't forget the Semin Sarcasm

Being captain has kinda made AO alot more of a douche. Who was it that said it this past summer....he was bang on about him. Snow showering a little child against the habs, breaking a kid's camera (sore loser after russia lost), and now this.

I would agree with this. Simply because Boudreau's fire wagon hockey + paycheque me first players like Semin and AO = no playoff success.

They have to have a deep run this year, or Boudreau is gone....if not before.

Still tops in the East I think though. That has to count for something.

Yeah, but now we have the makings of a pissing contest between AO and the coach. I guess we'll see.
