Amazing comparison between Toronto and Buffalo...

On Feb. 1st, the Leafs were in 8th and the Sabres were in 14th place in the East, 2 points out of last in the conference.

Fast forward to today... Leafs are in 14th spot in the East, 3 points out of last and the Sabres are in 8th spot.

Talk about totally opposite paths. Leafs had a monumental collapse as their goal tending bonked and the Sabres have had a meteoric rise as Miller regains his form.

Not that I really like the fact that Toronto is always front and center on TSN, but I find it funny that there isn't one article/headline/byline on TSN's web site this morning about the leafs, let alone them being eliminated once again.

So I figure Burke has one more year before he's canned and Nonis has to clean up his mess, history never fails to repeat itself.

I can't even begin to imagine how he'll fix the mess he's made. Bad free agent market, little cap space (even less if you figure the CBA uncertainty), lots of overpaid underachievers no one will want ....

Do you guys think that if the NHL allowed another franchise within the GTA, even Hamilton for example, that it would force the Leafs to improve? I'm not suggesting they aren't trying to improve, but certainly failure would not be as accepted if another team was close by that was pushing them.
