Another albatross that can't be moved if/when it goes south.

They now have $18M tied up in Briere, Richards and Carter. Not the most cap-friendly team.

That's not that bad. I bet there are some Penguins fans getting nervous about Malkin's "albatross".

Those three guys (Carter, Richards and Briere) are good players.

i'm not too worried about Carter's contract. i think philly is doing what they can to put a winning team on the ice for years to come. they have some good young players and a few possible trade candidates in a few years.
i guess this should put the carter trade rumours to bed.

Not the kind of guy you want to go long term with IMO. But hey, they have their entire roster locked up for a while, they should be the beasts for a long time.

I'm not a huge fan of this contract. They're locking down their significant players, but what happens exactly if you get a season where things don't go right? Where's the flexibility gonna come from? What about re-signing players in the next 2-3 years? Guys like JvR and Coburn.

FingersCrossed that the cap goes up? if not they have some players that can be trade bait.
they have a good roster, even if they slump one year they'll be a threat the next.

Word around the campfire is that the cap will go up between 3 and 4 million because of new TV packages the NHL is signing. I guess that's where they feel a little safer.
